2018 Ohio Primary Races

Ohio Primary Election is tomorrow Tuesday, May 8. Your mailbox and Inbox are probably both as stuffed with campaign literature as mine are.

It seems as though just about every candidate running as a Republican for any office – from Governor to GOP Central Committee member -- wants to be seen as conservative, an outsider, and a supporter of President Donald J. Trump.

Can we trust the campaign claims? And do any endorsements enter into the calculations in this election, or do they start to cancel each other out?

Regarding the Governor primary - both Mike DeWine and opponent claim to have been yuuge supporters of Donald Trump during the Presidential election.  That is NOT true.  During the primary both stayed away from any and all Trump events.  During the General Election - support was lukewarm at best.

The Cuyahoga County Republicans has endorsed the DeWine / Jon Husted ticket. Many conservative and religious groups across Ohio have endorsed Mary Taylor.

In the primary race for Ohio Treasurer between Robert Sprague and Sandy O'Brien - Sprague has been endorsed and supported by almost every relevant group across Ohio ranging from religious right, Tea Party, County Republican Party groups and the Ohio Republican Party.

Sprague has a rock solid record during his time in the Ohio House and has shown the fundraising ability to compete against the Democrats in a statewide race.

The US Senate primary between one of the Finance Chairs for the Trump campaign in Ohio and successful businessman Mike Gibbons & Congressman Jim Renacci to take on Democrat Sherrod Brown is turning out to be very contentious.

NumbersUSA is all about legal immigration, and it rates candidates and current members of Congress based on voting records and/or expressed support for enforcement of existing immigration laws. It rates Senator Sherrod Brown with an “F minus.”

It rates Rep. Jim Renacci with a “C.” It describes US Senator candidates Melissa Ackison and Mike Gibbons as “True Reformer.

The National Rifle Assoc. (NRA) has endorsed numerous candidates based on Second Amendment rights. Among the endorsed candidates is Jim Renacci for US Senate. But this year, Ohioans for Concealed Carry & Ohio Carry have both rejected Renacci as they have previously and endorsed Mike Gibbons for US Senate.

Donald Trump has recently endorsed Jim Renacci. Many of the Delegates and original Tea Party leaders that supported Donald Trump have come out and are supporting Mike Gibbons.  Gibbons has also been endorsed by Senator Rand Paul.

Many of these supporters of President Trump believe President Trumps endorsement of Renacci, who is also supported by Mitch McConnell & has received donations from his PAC, will turn out like President Trumps endorsement of the McConnell favorite Luther Strange in Alabama - which resulted in a loss to the Democrat in the General Election.

Most importantly - regardless of who you vote for -- make sure you vote!!!

When you vote, you will need to select a Democratic party, Republican party, Green party, or “Issues only” ballot; you can view a sample ballot online at www.443vote.com . NOTE: Cleveland Tea Party does not endorse primary candidates.

Will Governor Kasich allow the Ohio Legislature to put Pay Increases in Front of Health Care & Education?

Pay Increases for Ohio
Legislature Fast Tracked

Salaries More Important than Health Care and Education

Ohio - In a bold display of narcissism and selfishness, the Ohio House has fast tracked an amended substitute bill (Sub HB 661) through House Committee hearings in one day to give themselves a yearly "Cost of Living" increase.

Meanwhile important bills such as the Health Care Compact (HB 227), which would put the destiny of Ohio's health care in the hands of its own citizens, and the bill to Repeal Common Core (HB 597) are pushed aside and allowed to sit idle.

From the time Sub HB 661 was introduced, the Ohio House has managed to pass this bill for their own salary increases through committee hearings and on the floor for a full vote - in less than one weeks time.

This is the same legislature that is reported to be cutting this legislative session short, leaving important bills, such as the previously mentioned, to die at the end of this session.

"Where is the outrage, when people who are paid with our taxes, can't find the time to address important legislation, but in less than a week, can pass their own pay increases?" asked Marianne Gasiecki, Tea Party Patriots State Co-coordinator.

"Since they were able to find time to give themselves pay increases," stated fellow Tea Party Patriots State Co-Coordinator Ralph King, "one would expect that in the spirit of good government, the Ohio legislature would remain in session and actually do their job."

We respectfully request that Governor Kasich take a stand for good government and Ohio citizens by calling on both Ohio legislative bodies to do the responsible thing and stay in session until both HB 227 and HB 597 have been given a full vote by both bodies, added both King and Gasiecki.

Governor Kasich - the Nation is watching!

Common Core: Louisiana Gov. challenges it, Ohio Republican embraces it

Art credit: blog.heartland.org

From cleveland.com, our Republican legislators at work:

Efforts to repeal the Common Core educational standards in Ohio are a disheartening "circus" that needs to fail, State Sen. Peggy Lehner said in a speech at the City Club today that was also filled with praise for Cleveland's school improvement efforts and attempts to create more preschool opportunities for city children.
Lehner, a Dayton-area Republican who chairs the Senate's education committee, blasted House Bill 597 as political maneuvering filled with several "hidden agendas." The bill, which had hearings in the Ohio House the last two weeks, would kill the multi-state Common Core standards if passed.
The packed room, filled mostly with educators and school supporters, applauded when she called the bill and its hearings a circus.
"It would be downright silly if it wasn't so sad," said Lehner, a longtime supporter of the standards that the state school board adopted in 2010.
Lehner has repeatedly said that the standards improve greatly on Ohio's old ones and will raise expectations of students, which will give them greater chances to be successful in life.
Meanwhile, Cheryl K. Chumley of The Washington Times reports that in Louisiana:
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said he was filing a lawsuit on Wednesday against the Obama administration over alleged manipulation of grant money to force states to accept Common Core as their school standards.
Mr. Jindal is also accusing the White House of manipulating the regulatory process to compel states to take the much-disputed educational program, The Associated Press reported.
The U.S. Department of Education used its $4.3 billion grant program and waiver policy to press states into accepting the same educational testing and standards program. Mr. Jindal said that action “effectively forces states down a path toward a national curriculum,” which violates the 10th Amendment of the Constitution — state sovereignty, AP said.
Mr. Jindal also alleged the action breaks federal laws that ban the federal government from taking control of school and educational content.
He was planning to file the complaint in federal court in Baton Rouge.
AP was provided a draft copy of the suit.
“The federal government has hijacked and destroyed the Common Core initiative,” Mr. Jindal said in a statement reported by AP. “Common Core is the latest effort by big government disciples to strip away state rights and put Washington, D.C., in control of everything.”

At least Gov. Jindal is now actively challenging a policy he once supported. And he is getting blasted in the press for doing a 180 on a policy he was for, before he was against it.

The federal government should have NO say in education; that is what parents and teachers are supposed to do. Cleveland Tea Party Patriots thank all Ohio patriots who submitted testimony at the recent hearings in Columbus.
