Action Alert: Call Senate GOP Leaders Now! Stop Them From Caving on DHS Funding!

           Action Alert

Throughout the election cycle Republicans vowed to do everything they could to stop the President's overreach.

Now, the Republicans in the Senate under Majority Leader McConnell's guidance are playing games. Bowing to President Obama, Sen. McConnell now plans to bring a bill to the Senate floor that would fully fund the Department of Homeland Security without defunding executive amnesty!

McConnell is now offering a stand-alone anti-amnesty bill, but the current plan is to vote on it after they pass the DHS funding. This means the vote will be meaningless because it will not be attached to something that must pass Congress and be signed by the president.

Congress has the "power of the purse" and is responsible for serving as a check on the President's actions. We have a very narrow window of time to put a stop to President Obama's executive amnesty, and Congress needs to act now!

Please call Sen. McConnell, the Senate Republican Leadership & Ohio Senator Rob Portman to let them know that you want Congress to defund executive amnesty.

Remind them of their oath to support and defend the Constitution and urge them to vote on one bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security, while stripping funds from President Obama's unilateral amnesty.

Tell them that the Senate must vote to defund President Obama's amnesty before they vote on a clean DHS appropriations bill.

Senator Rob Portman MIA while Cruz & Senate Conservatives Oppose Amnesty by Executive Order

Senator Ted Cruz has sent a letter to lame duck Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid opposing President Obama's threat of using an Executive Order granting amnesty to illegal immigrants to again undermine the power of Congress.

Joining in with Senator Cruz in standing strong against President Obama continued abuse of his Executive Powers are Sens. Mike Crapo, R-ID; Mike Lee, R-UT; Pat Roberts, R-KS; Jeff Sessions, R-AL; and David Vitter, R-LA.

And in contrast, reminding us what spineless looks like, Senator John McCain has taken to pleading with President Obama not to use an Executive Order for granting amnesty to illegals.

Being from Ohio, when speaking of spineless on illegal immigration - having been a keynote speaker at a pro-amnesty event last year, Senator Rob Portman leads the jelly fish jubilee.

Though his voting record shows he would be a better nominee for the Democrats than the GOP, it is being widely reported that Senator Portman, instead of running to keep his U.S. Senate seat, has not ruled out running to be the GOP nominee for the White House in 2016.

When you stop laughing about Portman looking to run as the GOP nominee for POTUS, please contact his office and tell him - if he is looking to be reelected to anything -- now would be the time to at least act like a conservative and sign onto the letter from Senator Cruz.

From Senator Ted Cruz --

Don’t Enable Obama’s Executive Amnesty in Lame Duck

GOP SENATORS SEND WARNING TO HARRY REID AFTER RESOUNDING REFERENDUM

November 5, 2014

202-228-7561

WASHINGTON, DC - Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today sent a letter to Sen. Harry Reid, D-NV, the outgoing Senate Majority Leader, signed by Sens. Mike Crapo, R-ID; Mike Lee, R-UT; Pat Roberts, R-KS; Jeff Sessions, R-AL; and David Vitter, R-LA expressing opposition to President Obama's announced intention to take unilateral executive action by the end of this year to lawlessly grant amnesty to immigrants who have entered the country illegally.

"The Supreme Court has recognized that ‘over no conceivable subject is the power of Congress more complete' than its power over immigration," the letter said. "Therefore, President Obama will be exercising powers properly belonging to Congress if he makes good on his threat. This will create a constitutional crisis that demands action by Congress to restore the separation of powers."

The letter continued: "As majority leader of the Senate, you have the responsibility of not only representing the citizens of your State, but also of protecting the Constitution through vigilant exercise of the checks and balances provided under the Constitution. Therefore, we write to offer our full assistance in ensuring expeditious Senate debate and passage for a measure that preserves the power of Congress by blocking any action the President may take to violate the Constitution and unilaterally grant amnesty; however, should you decline to defend the Senate and the Constitution from executive overreach, the undersigned Senators will use all procedural means necessary to return the Senate's focus during the lame duck session to resolving the constitutional crisis created by President Obama's lawless amnesty."

The text of the letter is below:

November 5, 2014

Senator Harry Reid
Majority Leader
S-221, The Capitol
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Leader Reid:

We write to express our alarm with President Obama's announced intention to take unilateral executive action by the end of this year to lawlessly grant amnesty to immigrants who have entered the country illegally. The Supreme Court has recognized that "over no conceivable subject is the power of Congress more complete" than its power over immigration. Therefore, President Obama will be exercising powers properly belonging to Congress if he makes good on his threat. This will create a constitutional crisis that demands action by Congress to restore the separation of powers.

As majority leader of the Senate, you have the responsibility of not only representing the citizens of your State, but also of protecting the Constitution through vigilant exercise of the checks and balances provided under the Constitution. Therefore, we write to offer our full assistance in ensuring expeditious Senate debate and passage for a measure that preserves the power of Congress by blocking any action the President may take to violate the Constitution and unilaterally grant amnesty; however, should you decline to defend the Senate and the Constitution from executive overreach, the undersigned Senators will use all procedural means necessary to return the Senate's focus during the lame duck session to resolving the constitutional crisis created by President Obama's lawless amnesty.

Sincerely,

Statement by Senators McCain, Graham, Rubio & Flake on Senate Leader Harry Reid's Comments on Immigration Reform

You know the border crisis is serious when you have three of the GOP Senate members known for being weak on illegal immigration, Senator McCain, Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Marco Rubio speaking out against it.

But they say nothing about trying to stop President Obama's threat to wield his magic pen and issue an Executive Order Amnesty for the border jumpers illegally entering our country.

And notably missing from the growing chorus of "convenent conservatives" speaking out against Obama's border BS is Ohio's own Senator Rob "I Love Illegals too" Portman.

From Senator John McCain --
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) today issued the following statement on Majority Leader Harry Reid’s comments today regarding legislation to address the humanitarian crisis on the border:

“Last year, we voted to pass immigration reform legislation through the United States Senate. While we continue to support the goals of comprehensive immigration reform, none of us would support – or have ever contemplated – including that bill or the DREAM Act in legislation urgently needed this year to address the current humanitarian crisis on our southern border. It is obvious that Majority Leader Reid’s suggestion that the Senate could include comprehensive immigration reform in its border crisis bill is a blatant attempt to scuttle House Republicans’ good-faith efforts to pass legislation addressing the issue this week.

To be clear: Without our support – which he would not have – it would be impossible for Leader Reid to add comprehensive immigration reform or the DREAM Act to any border crisis bill this week. We encourage our colleagues in the House to move forward and pass legislation focused exclusively on addressing the current humanitarian crisis on the border, and finally test whether Democrats will work constructively with Republicans to solve this humanitarian crisis on our border, or play politics with an issue of urgent national importance.”

Action Alert: Stop President Obama's Border Bailout & Executive Order Amnesty!

This week, the House of Representatives is considering taking action on the President's request for $3.7 billion to deal with the border crisis. We need to urge them to say no to any funding unless they end the President's executive amnesty.

This is simply another case of Washington throwing more money at a problem as an attempt to solve it. Let's face it, as long as the President's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is in effect the influx of illegal immigrants will continue. And with the President's commitment to issue some kind of executive amnesty before November, we must tell Congress to say no!

Senators Ted Cruz (TX) and Jeff Sessions (AL) are leading the effort to stop the President's plans for executive amnesty and we need to give them back up by flooding the phones in Congress this week. Click here to read.

Take Action

Contact Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and tell him to support the efforts of Senator Cruz & Senator Sessions to stop President Obama's plans for Executive Order Amnesty

Shamnesty bill and amendment get the votes for cloture

Despite the floods of calls from patriot groups, NumbersUSA, and bloggers opposed to immigration amnesty bill S 744, the Senate today voted in late afternoon, 67-32 for Cloture to cut off debate on a bill amendment that nobody has read, moving the bill closer to passage.

From The Hill, here are the shamnesty RINOs, including members of the Gang of 8, who voted YES:
John McCain (Ariz.)
Lindsey Graham (S.C.)
Marco Rubio (Fla.)
Jeff Flake (Ariz.)
Bob Corker (Tenn.)
Lamar Alexander (Tenn.)
Kelly Ayotte (N.H.)
Jeff Chiesa (N.J.)
Susan Collins (Maine)
Orrin Hatch (Utah)
Dean Heller (Nev.)
Mark Kirk (Ill.)
John Hoeven (N.D.)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
Roger Wicker (Miss.).

Taxation Without Representation: Alive and Well in the State of Ohio

PRESS RELEASE
June 14, 2013
For Immediate Release
Contact: Marianne Gasiecki
(419) 961-4439

Taxation Without Representation

Alive and Well in the State of Ohio
Ohio - June 14, 2013 - Ohio politicians continue to expose their blatant disregard for the principles on which they ran, and the constituents who elected them.

Their most recent display of weakness and lack of moral fortitude is in full display with the series of events surrounding the Amnesty Bill S.744.

"No one is opposed to legal immigration.  My grandparents were legal immigrants from Sicily and risked everything to assimilate and become Americans, providing a future for their children that would be inconceivable in Sicily," stated Marianne Gasiecki, Founder of the Mansfield Tea Party and State Co-coordinator.  "What we're opposed to is a complete disregard for the laws of this land and taxpaying citizens."

If this bill passes, about 12 million current illegal immigrants would become permanent legal residents within ten years.  A recent poll commissioned by the Federation for American Immigration Reform reflected that 68% of Ohioans oppose granting legal status to illegal aliens before a border security plan is fully implemented.  74% of Ohioans oppose the discretionary authority given to DHS to legalize aliens with criminal records or gang affiliations.  Apparently, Senator Portman (R-Ohio) and Speaker Boehner (R-Ohio) believe it's no longer their job to represent the Ohioans who elected them.

"Earlier this week I asked Mr. Hoggatt, Senator Portman's aide, if the Senator supported S.744.  His answer was "no", but two days later, again betraying his conservative base, Senator Portman voted for Cloture and pushed the bill forward in the Senate.  Then we find out that Speaker Boehner, to no real surprise, has his own ideas on how to push forward with an amnesty granting bill," said Ralph King, fellow Ohio State Co-ordinator for Tea Party Patriots and Founder of the Cleveland Tea Party Patriots.

According to a recent article from The Blaze there is a revolt in the Boehner led House of Representatives, with 70 members petitioning for a special Republican conference meeting on the bill.

Also, boarder security is not up for debate, nor does it appear to be a concern.  The Senate already rejected a proposal by Iowa Republican Charles Grassley, that would have prohibited a first step toward granting them legal status until the U.S. Department of Homeland Security "has maintained effective control" of the entire U.S.-Mexico border - 1,969 miles - for a period of six months.  Instead, the Senate has shown unity in protecting what they see as a pillar of S.744: a provision to quickly make undocumented immigrants legal residents, therefore creating a whole new, permanent progressive voting block.

It's time for us to demand that our elected officials do the job their paid to do, and represent the tax paying citizens of Ohio.

Senator Rob Portman; Keynote Speaker at Pro-Amnesty Event

Already being undermined on the immigration reform fight raging in D.C. by Senator Marco Rubio, the Cato Institute, some national Tea Party groups and some Tea Party groups in Ohio ridiculously claiming that illegal immigrants are good for the economy, we find Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) trying to one up all of them.

Today, the pro-amnesty for illegal immigrants group, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will be hosting their 2013 LULAC Ohio Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio and they are proudly promoting that Senator Rob Portman will be a keynote speaker for the event.

Along with his new found love of amnesty for illegal immigrants, and knowing he has done a 180 degree pirouette on marriage, it appears Senator Portman has made himself a new friend....

  1. Just asked Sen. Portman to support Immigration reform, UAFA inclusion & ask the President to stop the deportations. Led a prayer w/him
  2. About to have a private meeting with Sen. Rob Portman in a back room at LULAC conference
  3. Hosting a conversation on Queer Latino identity at the state conference.
  4. It's time to take a stand on immigration reform at the LULAC conference .
  5. It's time to take a stand on immigration reform at the LULAC conference .

Also speaking at the event with Senator Portman, Ruben Castilla Herrera will discuss LGBT issues in the Latino community at today's LULAC event where the group is expected to endorse the Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom amendment being debated in the Gang of 8's immigration reform bill.

Time to Defund Common Core; Contact Your U.S. Senator Now!

The left's feel good program to further indoctrinate our children through the education system, Common Core, is thankfully facing a growing opposition.

In Ohio, the Ohio State Board of Education has adopted Common Core and is now cajoling local school districts to accept these new standards.  Common Core turns traditional teaching on its' head and will cause enormous financial burdens on districts as they will need to purchase new text books specifically tailored to teach the new Common Core Standards.

To combat this effort in Ohio, Ohioans Against Common Core (OACC) has been doing great work and has recently held forums across the state in attempts to educate the public on this very dangerous indoctrination program.

To watch a short informative video on what Common Core Standards are, please click here.

As local activist groups across the U.S. try to battle Common Core Standards at the local level, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is taking the fight against Common Core to D.C. and is asking fellow Senators to co-sign a letter asking them to join his efforts to defund Common Core....

From Caffeinated Thoughts --

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is asking his colleagues to co-sign a letter asking the Senate Appropriations Committee that funds education to cut off all future funds that would allow the Obama administration to “cajole state’s” into participating in the Common Core State Standards and it’s assessments.

His office in an email sent late this afternoon document the steps the Obama administration has taken to push states to adopt the Common Core.
  • Making adoption of Common Core a pre-requisite for a state even being able to compete for Race to the Top funds.
  • Directly funding the two assessment consortia developing tests aligned to Common Core using Race to the Top funds.
  • Assembling a panel to review the work of the two assessment consortia.
  • Making implementation of Common Core or coordination with Common Core a funding priority for other, unrelated competitive grants administered by the Department of Education.
  • Making participation in Common Core essentially a prerequisite for being awarded a waiver from the Department of requirements in the No Child Left Behind Act.
The email said, “This means no more Race to the Top funds in support of Common Core or the assessments aligned with Common Core and stopping further federal review of the assessments produced by the two consortiums. It also means that the Department could not penalize a state that chooses to leave Common Core by revoking its NCLB waiver. The deadline for senators to sign on this letter is April 25 so it can reach the subcommittee in time to be considered. “
Please contact your U.S. Senator immediately and ask them to sign on to Senator Grassley's letter to defund Common Core Standards. (Click to Read Letter)

Senator Portman Joins Sherrod Brown in Supporting Internet Sales Tax

Last week we posted an action alert urging people to contact Senator Rob Portman and Senator Sherrod Brown and ask them to vote against the Market Fairness Act (Internet Sales Tax).

While Portman, in humoring what is left of his conservative base, voted against the Senate Budget, he joined in with his new Bi-Partisan Buddy, Senator Sherrod Brown, and voted in support of the Market Fairness Act, aka -- Internet Sales Tax.

And, shrugging off the Sequester Cuts and the fiscal mess our country is facing, in again holding hands with his new voting pal in the U.S. Senate, Portman joined in with Sherrod Brown and voted against the amendment offered by Senator Ted Cruz to reduce aid for the Muslim Brotherhood aligned forces in Egypt.

From Red State --
Early Saturday morning, the Senate adopted its first concurrent budget resolution in four years.  Democrats cleverly made sure to hand out enough hall passes to vulnerable red state senators so they could vote against the $1 trillion tax increase, while ensuring that it ultimately passed 50-49.  Senators Baucus, Begich, Hagan, and Pryor were given the green light to vote no.  After a 13-hour “votarama” on 70 amendments, there is a lot to digest.  Obviously, none of this will have the force of law as all of the amendments that passed are attached to this budget resolution, which is dead on arrival in the House.  However, there are some important votes that can be used against Democrats in vulnerable seats, such as those pertaining to Obamacare, abortion, cap and trade, and guns.

On the Republican side, perhaps the most egregious vote was the Enzi amendment to allow states to form a cartel and collect internet sales taxes for other states.  The so-called Market Fairness Act passed in the form of a second degree amendment by 75-24, with the support of 26 Republicans.  This will send the message to Harry Reid that he has more than 60 votes to pass this as a standalone bill.  In doing so, they have voted to grow government all over the country, hurt low-tax states, impose taxation without representation, saddle small businesses with collecting taxes for 10,000 distinct tax jurisdictions, and adulterate the freest most successful entity known to man.  You can read more about it here.

Here are the 26 Republicans:

Alexander
Blunt
Boozman
Burr
Chambliss
Coburn
Cochran
Collins
Corker
Crapo
Enzi
Fischer
Graham
Hoeven
Isakson
Johanns
Johnson, R
Kirk
McCain
Moran
Portman
Risch
Sessions
Shelby
Thune
Wicker

One other important vote from a Republican vantage point was Ted Cruz’s amendment to reduce foreign aid to Egypt.  It only garnered the support of 25 senators.   I’ll check back with more updates after fully digesting all the votes.

Stop Online Sales Tax -- Call Your Senator Today!

Looking for anyway to continue squeezing a penny from the American citizens and businesses in order to continue their out of control spending, the U.S. Senate is again considering an online sales tax in their budget talks....

From The Daily Caller --
Lawmakers are again trying to attach an online sales tax to larger legislation they consider more likely to pass.

The Marketplace Fairness Act, which would allow states to levy sales taxes on goods purchased online, is being proposed as an amendment to the Senate budget for fiscal year 2014 by bill cosponsors Wyoming Republican Sen. Mike Enzi and Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin.

In the last session of Congress, the bill was proposed as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, but the move failed.

Though many lawmakers initially signed on to this year’s version of the Marketplace Fairness Act, including many Republicans, momentum for the bill has slowed.

There has been talk that the bill may be added to a larger comprehensive tax reform bill, though some feel that the measure should remain a separate bill.

The Senate budget proposal — the first unveiled in the upper chamber since 2009 — is expected to be debated through the week.

Call your U.S. Senator and tell them to vote NO on The Marketplace Fairness Act!
