John Boehner's Tea Party Whopper!

With President Obama's, "if you like your health care plan - you can keep it," being the Lie of the Year for 2013, refusing to be outdone by his golfing buddy, Speaker Boehner immediately becomes the front runner for "Lie of the Year" for 2014 with his claim that he has attended "hundreds of Tea Party events."

From Breitbart --

Politicians may be known for stretching the truth, but Speaker John Boehner's claim he's attended “hundreds of Tea Party events” over the past four years apparently pulled it well past the point of breaking.

In reviewing press reports, Breitbart News was only able to identify three Tea Party events Boehner has attended, all of which occurred before he became speaker. Boehner's spokesman now says the Ohio Republican has merely “talked with hundreds of Tea Party supporters.” Several top Ohio Tea Party activists, meanwhile, said they didn't know of Boehner's attending any Tea Party events in his home state.

Boehner made the claim at a Thursday luncheon event at the Middletown, Ohio, Rotary Club, specifying that by attending so many events he's been able to identify patterns in who makes up the Tea Party.

“I've gone to hundreds of Tea Party events over the last four years. The makeup is pretty much the same. You've got some disaffected Republicans, disaffected Democrats. You always have a handful of anarchists. They are against everything. Eighty percent of the people at these events are the most ordinary Americans you've ever met – none of whom have ever been involved in politics. We in public service respect the fact that they brought energy to the political process,” Boehner said.

In 2009 and 2010, Boehner attended at least three Tea Party rallies.

The first was April 15, 2009 in Bakersfield, California, where he attended with House Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy. The second was September 6, 2009, where he spoke against Obamacare, then under consideration in Congress, at a Cincinnati Tea Party Voices of America Freedom Rally. The third was April 13, 2010 at a Tea Party rally held in Orlando, Florida, organized by Tea Party activist Jason Hoyt and attended by an estimated 2,000 people.

Incidentally, all were more than four years ago, which was the length of time Boehner specified during which he had attended the events.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, told Breitbart News late Friday, “Rep. Boehner attended Tea Party rallies, including in Florida and California, from the very start of the movement, and he's talked with hundreds of Tea Party supporters in recent years as he has traveled in Ohio and around the country.”

Boehner keeps an extremely busy schedule as he travels the country fundraising for Republican candidates, during the course of which he has undoubtedly met many people who self-identify as being of the Tea Party.

However, back home in Ohio, prominent local Tea Party activists say he has largely been missing in action.

“Speaker Boehner is my Representative,” Ann Becker, an Ohio Tea Party activist, said Friday. “He has been to only one Tea Party event. It was in September of 2009. His staff has been to a few more events. But hundreds is an extreme overstatement. He also has met with Tea Party leaders in the district a few times.”

“I am unaware of Boehner attending 'hundreds of Tea Party events,'” Ralph King, co-coordinator of the Cleveland, Ohio, Tea Party Patriots, said. “I would say the closest Boehner would ever be to a Tea Party event is he would have been driving the British ship in the Boston Harbor!”

Marianne Gasiecki, founder of the Mansfield, Ohio, Tea Party told Breitbart News on Friday, “John Boehner has not been to any Tea Party rallies outside of his district that I know of.”

“If he does go to Tea Party rallies in his district," Gasieki said, "it's only during campaign season."

Boehner was a notable no-show at the massive rally attended by more than 20,000 Tea Party activists on the west lawn of the Capitol on March 20, 2010 called to oppose Obamacare one day before the final vote. Numerous Tea Party-friendly members of Congress, including Steve King (R-IA), Michele Bachmann (R-MN), and Mike Pence (R-IN) spoke at the event.

Boehner also did not attend an August 27, 2013 Tea Party rally of 300 activists held in front of Speaker Boehner's Troy, Ohio, offices. The purpose of the rally was to urge Boehner to defund Obamacare.

At the luncheon Thursday, Boehner went on to explain how he has a fairly positive view of the Tea Party movement but not the organizations that claim its mantle in urging Congress to be more conservative.

According to Boehner, "[t]here's the Tea Party and then there are people who purport to represent the Tea Party."

"I don't have any issue with the Tea Party," Boehner said. "I have issues with organizations in Washington who raise money purporting to represent the Tea Party, those organizations who are against a budget deal the president and I cut that will save $2.4 trillion over 10 years. They probably don't know that total federal spending in each of the last two years has been reduced, the first time since 1950."

According to Boehner, Tea Party activists "probably don't realize that we protected 99 percent of the American people from an increase in their taxes. They were against that too, the same organizations. There are organizations in Washington that exist for the sheer purpose of raising money to line their own pockets."

"I made it pretty clear I'll stand with the Tea Party," Boehner concluded, "but I'm not standing with these three or four groups in Washington who are using the Tea Party for their own personal benefit."

Boehner also mocked Republicans who opposed his efforts to pass immigration reform legislation.

"Here's the attitude," he told the audience. Then, in a high pitched, theatrical voice, Boehner screeched out, "Ohhhh. Don't make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard."

Conservative Groups Unite to Stop GOP Push for Weak Immigration Laws

Seeing there are GOP leaders like, Speaker BoehnerRep Eric Cantor, Rep. Paul Ryan, and Senator Rubio, along with some so-called conservative groups like the Koch Brothers (AFP) and National Federation of Republican Women, that are actually joining with the Democrats in pushing for weaker immigration laws, many Tea Party, liberty and conservative grassroots groups are gearing up for the soon to come fight over illegal immigration.

From The Daily Caller --
Tea party groups and small-government activists are applying grassroots pressure to stop the House from approving the Senate immigration bill, which would triple immigration to roughly 33 million people over 10 years.

An Oct. 17 letter from more than 100 conservative leaders and tea party activists to the Republican Speaker of the House, Rep. John Boehner, says the Senate bill is so flawed that it would create a “disaster” for Americans, even if it is merged with a perfect House immigration bill.

“We ask you to make a public commitment that the House of Representatives will not conference any House immigration bill with any version of the Senate immigration, or engage in any informal negotiations to do so,” reads the one-page letter, which is accompanied by three pages of signatures from conservatives, tea party leaders and immigration reform groups.

“In the absence of such a commitment, we, and the millions of Americans our organizations represent, will have no choice but to oppose all efforts to bring any immigration legislation before the House of Representatives,” the letter concludes.

The signers include Jenny Beth Martin of the Tea Party Patriots, Mike Needham from Heritage Action, and Phyllis Schlafly from the Eagle Forum. The immigration groups who signed the letter include NumbersUSA and the Federation for American Immigration Reform. (Read More....)

We Are Not Fooled By Fairy Tales on Failed Policies

Cleveland, OH -  While making a campaign stop for his reelection bid, President Obama visited our great city today to tout the perceived accomplishments of his Administration over the past 4 years.

“That President Obama would come to Cleveland, the 7th most financially distressed city in the U.S., and attempt to spin gold from his 4 years of failed policies into a fairy-tale like story of imaginary accomplishments while he has occupied the White House is beyond belief,” stated Cleveland Tea Party Patriots Co-Coordinator Ralph King.

Obama’s EPA regulations have already forced four FirstEnergy Corp. coal-burning power plants to close in Ohio alone. The Ohio Public Utilities Commission told the Associated Press that closing these power plants, “could have a dramatic impact on electric prices” in most of northern Ohio, which produces 47% of our nations electric supply, and beyond.

“While President Obama claims to be for the working man, his failed policies put thousands of area car dealerships out of business and many more people out of work,” said King. “And, it is only because of President Obama’s heavy-handed support of the EPA and his Administration’s ‘War on Coal’ that residents in this region will soon be faced with skyrocketing electric bills and a 300% increase in sewer rates from $3 billion in EPA mandated upgrades – further crippling an already financially distressed region and the ‘working man’ he claims to be helping.”

Ohio is an important swing State in the coming election and the President has another major problem to overcome. The people in Ohio roundly rejected his prized “Obamacare” last year when they passed an Amendment to the Ohio Constitution blocking the “Obamacare” mandates now under deliberation by the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The Ohio Healthcare Freedom Amendment was a complete embarrassment for the Obama Administration and a rebuke of his policies with all 88 Ohio Counties voting for the Amendment in a mandate like fashion – even in the Democrat strongholds of the state. So who is he trying to fool?” asked Marianne Gasiecki Tea Party Patriots State Co-coordinator.

Spending Cuts are a Hollow Victory

HOLLOW VICTORY
Tea Party Patriots Criticize Minimal Budget Cuts

(CLEVELAND) - Today, Tea Party Patriots, the nation's largest tea party organization, criticized the minimal cuts made in a last-minute budget deal between both Houses of Congress and President Obama.

"In the seven days preceding last night's deal, our nation's debt increased by $54.1 billion.  And now our 'leaders' are touting as 'historic' the $38.5 billion in spending cuts for the rest of fiscal year 2011,"  said Mark Meckler, Co-Founder and National Coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots.  "Leadership requires bold, visionary action in times of crisis.  Are we getting bold, visionary leadership in Washington, DC?  We think the numbers speak for themselves."

"Democrats in the Senate and White House have obstructed any real move towards pulling our country back from the fiscal abyss," said Jenny Beth Martin, also a Co-Founder and National Coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots.  "While our nation increased its deficit by $223,000,000,000 (Two Hundred and Twenty-Three Billion Dollars) in February, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid characterized $61,000,000,000 in proposed Republican spending cuts as 'extreme and draconian.'"

"We want to thank all those in Congress who stood with the tea party movement against the pressure by their leadership of both Houses and the President," said Ralph King, Coordinator of the Cleveland Tea Party Patriots and State (OH) Co-Coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots.
"We are extremely disappointed with the Ohio Freshmen in Congress for siding with the GOP establishment but want to applaud Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-4) and Rep Steve Chabot (OH-1) for standing strong strong against the continued wave of spending and irresponsibility."

Protect City of Euclid voting Rights

Our Euclid Team Leader, Jason Alan, put this together for voters in Euclid.

PROTECT EUCLID VOTING RIGHTS

  • In Nov. of 2009 Euclid Council terms were extended from 2 to 4 yr. terms. Now if they perform poorly we have to wait possibly 4 years to VOTE them out.

  • OR another way for them to be removed is to gather signatures in the form of a petition and have it placed on the next elections ballot.

  • Issues 26 and 27 deal with this and are on the May 4th primary ballot in the form of city AMENDMENTS.

  • ISSUE 26 Article III, Section 2,
Recall - The charter of the city of Euclid be amended to increase the number of signatures needed to file such petitions (removal of elected officials) to 25 percent of the electors voting in the most recent general election.

  • Currently, the charter requires ONLY 15% of those who voted in last years election.

  • ISSUE 27 Should Article III, Section 2,
  • Recall of the Charter of the City of Euclid be amended to require a declaration of intent to petition for the removal of any elected officer of the city; and to impose a 45 day time limit on the filing of petitions after the declaration has been filed.

  • Currently, there is NO time limit on the gathering of signatures for recall.

  • The DECLARATION to RECALL is something new.

  • If you combine the new staggered City Council terms, with the newly added 4 year terms and if ISSUES 26 and 27 pass they are further distancing themselves from us “Their Employers”.

  • This does NOTHING to benefit the residents of Euclid, and will ONLY benefit the elected officials “Our Employees”

VOTE NO! VOTE NO! VOTE NO!
On Issues 26 and 27

Contract from America signing at Cleveland Tax Day Tea Party

At the recent Tax Day Tea Parties hundreds of local Tea Party and limited government groups around the country joined together to announce the launch of the "Contract from America," a grassroots legislative blueprint for 2010 and beyond.

Grassroots activists from across the country visited the website to choose their top ten priorities from a list of 21 action items that committed Americans from all walks of life proposed. The top ten issues comprise the final Contract. After garnering nearly half a million votes in less than two months, the Contract from America has now been finalized into a blueprint that will serve notice to public officials about what the people want for their future.

Bob Frantz of WTAM/1100 led the unveiling of the Contract from America at our 2nd Annual Cleveland Tax Day Tea Party...

10th Congressional District candidate Peter Corrigan

13th Congressional District candidate Justin Wooden

Secretary of State candidate Sandra O'Brien

OH House District 7 candidate Tony Hocevar

OH House District 14 candidate Dave Morris was present, but was called into work immediately prior to the ceremonial signing. Mr. Morris has signed the actual Contract from America though.

We want to thank these candidates for attending and participating in our ceremonial signing of the Contract from America.

Understanding that this is not an endorsement and that the Tea Parties do not exist for candidates or political parties, but for "We the People", the Contract from America will be in front of many candidates and politicians running for reelection and asking if they support this grass roots crafted contract.

More information about each plank, including its full description and the name of the activist who first proposed it, is available at the Contract from America’s website (Click here).

COAST brings campaign to ban Red Light Cameras
to
Cleveland and Garfield Heights
Friday, April 9, 2010 at Noon

For immediate release:

Monday, April 5, 2010 at 8:30 AM

For more information:
Christopher P. Finney, 513-720-2996 (COAST)
Maryanne Petranek, 216-503-2238 ( Cleveland )
Frank Wagner, 216-799-2909 ( Garfield Heights )

On Friday, at the invitation of local activists, COAST returns to Cleveland to formally launch petition drives to fight Red Light Cameras in the cities of Cleveland and Garfield Heights . COAST will come with petitions and petitioning instructions in hand to start the 2010 drive. The details of the gathering are as follows:

The intersection of Chester Ave. and E. 71st
Friday, April 9, 2010 at Noon

(This is the intersection where more tickets have been issued for red light cameras in Cleveland than any other.)

In 2009, at least three other cities in Ohio batted back Red Light Cameras. Pickerington residents defeated the plan with legislative action, and voters in Chillicothe and Heath, Ohio banned the cameras with ballot initiatives.

In 2008,Cincinnati voters banned the pernicious and intrusive devices with a Charter Amendment.

The Cleveland and Garfield Heights Charter Amendment proposals are modeled after Cincinnati 's and will effectively ban unmanned red light and speeding cameras from being enforced in City limits.

On Thursday, COAST and local volunteers in Toledo will re-launch the effort to ban the cameras in that City as well.

Cleveland Tea Party Patriots Candidate Forum; After-Action Report

We had an awesome turnout for the CTPP Candidates Forum with about 65 people attending. The questions posed to the participating candidates were far from the usual softball type questions and settings most typically seen.

The candidates that participated were given no "open book" type questions prior to the event and were told they would be coming into an unknown setting. Other than the most basic description of the format and that their opponents would be invited, the candidates were completely kept in the dark about what they would be facing.

The reasoning behind this was twofold -- one, the Tea Parties should not exist for the candidates & their campaign but for our members & our core values. The other being -- if a candidate must study or prepare for a Candidates Forum, they have no business running for office. They should already know what they stand for and why they are running for office. The candidates were informed that the days of softball type questions and cookie-cutter type formats are a thing of the past with the Tea Party Patriot groups in OH.

Here is a break down on the candidates that attended & those that didn't;

Secretary of State

Sandra O'Brien, who is running for Secretary of State was in attendance, her opponent, John Husted refused to attend.

After first giving a verbal commitment that they would attend the series of candidate forums being hosted by the Tea Party Patriot groups in OH, the Husted campaign played games and wanted to just come and talk to the groups alone. They were told we do not exist for candidates to bloviate pie in the sky promises -- after this the Husted campaign did not respond to several requests for confirmation of their attendance.

State Auditor

Seth Morgan, who is running for State Auditor was in attendance. His opponent, Dave "I was for being Attorney General before I was against it" Yost.... well we don't know what happened to Dave.

When Dave was going to be the Tea Party darling and run against Mike DeWine for Attorney General he was all gung-ho on coming to the events. After he decided to do the bidding for ORP Chairman Kevin DeWine ( and John "CAT Tax" Husted) by abandoning the AG race (and the Tea Parties & 9.12 Groups) for the State Auditor race, Yost refused to schlep in for any of the TPP candidate forums. This brings us to the conclusion Yost would much rather drink Ohio GOP kool-aid than "Tea" with you & me.

For the record, when Dave Yost, who can now be referred to as the AG candidate of yosterday, dropped out of the AG race, he claimed it was the grass roots organizations that asked him to do so. We don't want to say he is not telling the truth, but he has been unable to provide any proof of these requests.

10th Congressional District & OH House 98th District

Peter Corrigan & Ben Franklin running in the District 10 primary were in attendance and both performed very well.

Tim Grendell & Skip Claypool running for OH House 98th District were also in attendance and both of these candidates rose to the occasion also.

****************************

Overall, the candidates all performed very well and should be applauded for their willingness to wade into an unknown format, something rarely done by candidates. We wish them all the best of luck in the May primary races.

We want to thank Steve Christopher (former AG candidate) and Kat Palmer for moderating the event. We also want to thank the Cuyahoga for Liberty group for taping the event for us. The video will be up soon and you can judge the candidates performance for yourself.
