MasterCard and Visa Have Suspended Russia Operations: ominous

image credit: blackenterprise.com

Why Americans Shouldn't Be Happy That
MasterCard and Visa Have Suspended Russia Operations

At PJ Media, Robert Spencer concludes:

This action by Visa and MasterCard is also ominous for American conservatives. Allum Bokhari, who covers Big Tech for Breitbart, reported last July that “progressive activists have launched well-funded campaigns aimed at payment processors, and credit card companies, aimed at cutting the political right off from payment and banking services.” Bokhari also noted that I myself was a victim of this in 2018: “Visa and Mastercard cut off payments to David Horowitz’s Freedom Center. Horowitz later had the service restored, but Islam critic Robert Spencer reported that he too was blacklisted by Mastercard, blaming it on pressure from far-left activists.” Indeed: after a Leftist hate group published an “exposé” about funding of “right-wing” groups, MasterCard cut me off, claiming it had done so because my website featured “illegal content.” That is, content that Leftists don’t like.

Whatever you may think of me and of other people that the Leftist establishment has targeted for destruction, the implications of what is being done are clear. America is at a crossroads today. The choice before us is whether we will continue to exist as a free society, or whether we will become a totalitarian state in which holding the proper opinions is an indispensable prerequisite of being able to function as a citizen at all. Note that Visa’s Al Kelly said his company had decided to take the step to suspend services in Russia because of “the unacceptable events that we have witnessed.” What will Americans who dissent from the Leftist agenda do when the credit card giants tell them that such dissent is “unacceptable” as well?

If MasterCard and Visa offer their services only to those with acceptable political opinions, it isn’t just Russia that will ultimately be affected. At risk is the basic and hard-won principle of equality of access to services. When that goes, our other freedoms will swiftly follow — more swiftly than most Americans realize.

David Horowitz: Naming the Enemy

National treasure David Horowitz of Freedom Center offered his remarks at the annual Restoration Weekend conference.  This extract is via FrontPageMag:

As we have been saying now for several years, these enemies of our great country now control the Democrat Party and all three branches of government and have taken us to a point where we might be one election away from losing our country altogether.

. . .

A small but not insignificant sign of our impact was brought home to me the other day. I was on a radio show whose host happened to be a trustee of one of California’s K-12 school districts. He told me that at a school board meeting the other week, a protesting parent shouted out, “David Horowitz says, ‘Don’t call them liberals.’”

The K-12 schools have become the latest battlegrounds of the left’s efforts to dismantle our country’s constitutional order and replace it with a socialist tyranny. The weapons of political war are words. If the other side is calling you “racists,” “white supremacists,” “insurrectionists,” and “domestic terrorists,” and you are calling them “liberals” and “progressives,” you are not going to win that war. That has been a key message of the Center for more than 30 years.

Republicans and conservatives seem intent on preventing our political enemies from being embarrassed by the malignant plans they have in store for us. Over the past seventeen years Democrats have conducted a relentless war against the First Amendment, have blown up our southern border, and flown unvetted criminals, COVID carriers, and terrorists to unknown destinations in our country in the middle of the night. Everyone knows they are doing this to rig future elections and create a one-party state. Are they ruthless and unprincipled enough to do this? They have locked up hundreds of individuals arrested in the Capitol on January 6th and put many of them in solitary confinement for 10 months. The crime these “insurrectionists” are charged with is “trespassing.” You bet Pelosi and Biden and their entourage are ruthless.

Don’t call them liberals, and don’t call them progressives. What is progressive about wanting a re-run of the Third Reich or Stalin’s Russia? They are fascists. . . .

A columnist’s heroes: David Horowitz and Donald J. Trump

Bruce Bawer is a regular contributor to Front Page Magazineonline.  In his view, David Horowitz and Donald J. Trump are not “principled conservatives” – except that the opposite is true.  Here’s Mr. Bawer:

In their article, [Ronald] Radosh and [Sol] Stern contrast David Horowitz to what they call “principled conservatives.” This is a term we see often these days. It is used by never-Trumpers to describe their own wonderful selves. It is premised on the notion that before Trump came along, the GOP was a party of perfect dignity and decorum, seemliness and respectability, ethics and honor. Well, let me put in my own two cents here. Nearly four decades ago, I began my career writing for conservative publications – mostly about cultural topics (novels, poetry, movies), rarely if ever about politics per se. At first, it didn’t matter that I was gay. Homosexuality wasn’t a frequent topic in political magazines in those days. A few years later, however, as gay-rights issues heated up, it began to matter quite a bit.

Even back then, there were many gay writers at conservative publications. But some weren’t out to their editors, fearing that they would be fired if they revealed themselves. (One of them told me at the time that his editor looked upon him as a son, but if he knew he was gay, “I’d be dead to him.”) Many others were out to their editors, but, knowing the unwritten rules, didn’t mention their sexual orientation in print. One friend of mine was an exception: not understanding those unwritten rules, he published a book in the early 1990s in which he referred in passing to his homosexuality. As a result, he was, to his everlasting shock, given the boot by the editor of the conservative magazine to which he was a frequent contributor. His offense, the editor made clear, wasn’t being gay – the editor had never had a problem with that – but mentioning it in print. Anywhere.

It was a different time.

In 1993 it was my turn. In that year I published a book, A Place at the Table: The Gay Individual in American Society, that argued for the full inclusion of openly gay people in American society while also criticizing the “queer” left for its far-left radicalism, hatred of America, and love of its own marginality. I saw it as a deeply conservative book. But it made many conservatives, especially members of the pre-boomer generation who still held the reins at the magazines and journals, uncomfortable. Over the course of a year or two, I found myself estranged from all my conservative outlets – an estrangement that would last two decades, until (in most cases) a younger generation of editors took over. Some of those publications closed their doors to me; others I walked away from, recognizing that, for the time being at least, my continued presence there made both me and my editors uneasy, and that my hours there were almost surely numbered anyway.

And it was at precisely that point that David Horowitz – a virtual stranger to me, but aware of what I was going through – reached out, inviting me to write for his magazine Heterodoxy. It was a gesture – dare I say a principled gesture? – that I have never forgotten.

My feelings about David Horowitz are in many ways mirrored by my feelings about Donald Trump. As noted, self-regarding conservative veterans like Radosh and Stern tend to write about the pre-Trump GOP as if its leading figures were amalgams of Edmund Burke and St. Francis of Assisi. For my part, I cast my first presidential vote ever for Gerald Ford and my second for Ronald Reagan. But after that, the party’s presidential candidates, whether they won or lost, held little appeal for me. (This is not to say that their Democratic counterparts were any better.) They all used ugly, malevolent gay-bashing to win votes, implying that gay people were the greatest threat of all to American values. Trump – “vulgar” Trump – never stooped that low. He never came close. During the 2016 campaign I kept holding my breath waiting for it to happen – it had to happen; he was a Republican – and it never happened.

Vulgar? Nasty? No, in thunder. He was nothing less than noble. Not just in the way he talked to gays, but also in the way he addressed blacks, women, Latinos, Asians, Appalachian coal miners, Midwestern farmers, the military, the police. There was not a hint of Democratic identity-group pandering, and none of the awkwardness of a George H.W. Bush, say, trying desperately to pretend to relate to people about whose lives he was utterly clueless. Yes, Trump was a billionaire, but he had spent his adult life on construction sites rubbing shoulders with plumbers, carpenters, welders, roofers, glaziers, electricians, and other working stiffs; and he had hired and promoted – and fired – on the basis of excellence and nothing else.

And that was only a small part of what he did. He effected changes in the GOP that I had been dreaming of my whole adult life. His love for America, and respect for Americans, high and low, were palpable. He made most of the GOP presidential hopefuls before him, and most of the Republicans in Congress during his own tenure, look like wimps, hacks, careerists, phonies, cowards. Unlike all those “principled conservatives” whom Radosh and Stern celebrate, Trump was a Republican presidential candidate whom I could cheer without serious reservation. He knew what the real issues were. He knew who the real enemies were. He knew the real America, and was fully on its side. And through it all, he was never afraid to speak the truth, loud and clear.

Just like – yes – a certain American hero named David Horowitz.

David Horowitz: Divisions of our time

David Horowitz is a red-diaper baby who not only rejects communism but is an eloquent and prolific defender of the Constitution and freedom.  He is the proprietor of David Horowitz’s Freedom Center and its online presence at Front Page Mag.  His essay yesterday is my idea of a must-read.  It begins:

My Former Friends Have Joined the Fascists:

A personal tale of the divisions of our time.

The accusation that dissent is dangerous and must be suppressed mimics the fascist voice of the Democrat Party in its campaign to criminalize anyone who questions the 2020 election. Calling the break-in to the Capitol “an armed insurrection,” when there were no arms and no insurrections, ordering 25,000 troops to the Capitol to deal with a non-existent threat, calling Republicans “enemies of the state” (Pelosi), authorizing witch-hunts of (right wing) “extremists” in the military, the Capitol police and the Department of Homeland Security, seeking the expulsion of Senators Hawley and Cruz and the impeachment of the president for questioning the legitimacy of the electors are of a piece with Radosh and Stern’s malicious charge against me. The aim is to criminalize dissent and make it a high crime in the process.

The reality of course is that Democrats themselves have challenged the legitimacy of every Republican presidential victory this century, including the election of Trump, which they have never accepted. Their “resistance” has caused great damage to the republic, which they prefer not to notice.

Freedom Center’s Restoration Weekend

PowerLine blog is a regular stop for me. John Hinderaker is one of the regulars, and he just reported on Freedom Center’s annual event, Restoration Weekend. His report is a real pick-me-up, and I recommend sitting down to enjoy reading the whole thing. Click here. He leads off:

I am en route home from the David Horowitz Freedom Center’s Restoration Weekend in Palm Beach, Florida. This was my first Restoration Weekend, but it won’t be my last. It was an intense three days; I can’t begin to do it justice in a post but will try to touch on a few highlights that may be of interest to our readers.

* David Horowitz, at age 80, remains a national treasure. This morning there was a touching memorial tribute to Peter Collier, David’s long-time friend and collaborator. It is good to see that David is still going strong.

* Victor Davis Hanson spoke at the opening dinner Thursday night. He put aside his prepared remarks to talk about the impeachment fiasco now taking place in Washington. We had a chance to chat briefly after the event. . . .

* Donald Trump, Jr. spoke at Friday’s breakfast. He was excellent – in my view, a top-notch surrogate who pulls no punches. Those who attended Restoration Weekend got a copy of his new book, Triggered. I am only a few chapters into it, but it is surprisingly good – one of the most fiery books I have ever read. It tells the story of the last three years from an insider’s perspective, and Donald Jr. is brutal in his evaluations of figures like Robert Mueller. Scott [Johnson] sometimes talks about needing help with his anger management therapy. Trust me: Triggered is therapeutic.
. . .

Included in his report are Candace Owen, Diamond & Silk, Rich Little, James O’Keefe, David Horowitz, and many other reporters, bloggers, and investigative journalists whose names you will recognize. Interesting and fun.

Hillary’s criminal rap sheet

art credit: Your Perception is not Reality

Front Page Magazine is a website published by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. The Center is dedicated to exposing the agenda and tactics of the radical left, whether socialists, communists, liberal, etc. A few days ago, John Perazzo collected a long list of Hillary Clinton’s crimes and misdemeanors. Mostly crimes. His title is “The Clinton Record: A devastating exposé of the most unfit and undeserving individual ever to seek the American presidency.” The article is very long, it’s footnoted, and it is devastating. Below are the bullet point conclusions.

This, then, is Hillary Clinton: a woman who is wholly, unequivocally unfit to serve as anything more than an inmate in a federal penitentiary. She has demonstrated, time and again:
  • that she cannot, under any circumstances, be trusted with national security or state secrets;
  • that she treats the paper on which the Espionage Act is written, with no more reverence than she would give to a strip of toilet paper;
  • that she treats with similar disregard the paper on which the U.S. Constitution is written;
  • that her judgment in matters of international conflict, diplomacy, and terrorism is an abomination;
  • that she routinely uses her “charitable foundation” as a money-laundering operation designed to enrich herself under the guise of helping the needy;
  • that she will gladly sell out her country, and everyone in it, in exchange for material riches and political dominion;
  • the she is intent upon using the most irresponsible refugee and immigration policies imaginable to import countless millions of people from hostile, impoverished nations across the globe for one core purpose: to permanently transform the American population into one that will vote reliably Democrat from now until the end of time;
  • that she fully intends to purge the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights;
  • that she unequivocally plans to expand the disastrous, failing Obamacare debacle into an even more monstrous, government-run, single-payer healthcare system;
  • that she favors soft-on-crime policies that have repeatedly been shown to cause violent crime rates to skyrocket;
  • that she is perfectly willing to institutionalize massive, ubiquitous voter fraud because she believes that it will ensure additional power for her political party;
  • that she views white Americans as a whole, as inherently, “implicitly,” and “irredeemably” racist, and therefore in constant need of an all-powerful government to restrain their bigoted impulses;
  • that despite her professed aversion to racism in general, she is quite happy to ally herself with “politically correct” racists like Al Sharpton and the Black Lives Matter movement; and
  • that she opposes the imposition of any restrictions whatsoever on abortion rights, or on the government's power to force taxpayers to fund abortions.

In the final analysis, Hillary Clinton is a woman with a mindset that is totalitarian in every respect. To make matters worse, she is a lying, deceiving, manipulative, self-absorbed criminal without a shred of personal virtue. Truly it can be said that never before in American history has anyone so unfit and so undeserving, run for president. Never.
