You Asked For Change?

Why did they changed the rules?

For the “Baby Boom” generation 2007 was a milestone producing the first “Boomer” to file for Social Security benefits. Kathleen Casey-Kirschling filed for early benefits in October 2007. What may have seemed an eternity back in 1943 finally became reality for the government’s “safety net”. Now, with each passing day, this ever-growing group of one hundred million (plus) have trained their sights on Uncle Sam’s Community Chest for the next 25 years.

If 2007 opened doors for the largest transition of producers to retirees then this shift might prove to re-write the definition of the “haves and have nots”. With some of America’s most productive and profitable years behind her, these boomers acquired more wealth than any preceding group in American history. Such shift of monumental proportion might leave a permanent ripple in the economic welfare of future producers begging the question, how will “Generation X, Y or Z” ever dream of catching up while saddled to produce for the boomer’s final years? Or is this cause for re-distributing the wealth?

From Social Security’s inception, nearly every Congress has sponsored a bill to “fix it”. So let’s establish the fact that Social Security was broken from the start! Now, the worse case scenario for Social Security would be for a super large group like the boomers to withdrawal from the work force crashing the system and exposing it for what it really is...broke!

This boomer asks...
  1. How is it possible that on the brink of the boomer retirement era we find ourselves embroiled in a worldwide economic nightmare?
  2. How is it possible that the likely outcome of this disaster will leave the boomers holding the bag thus denying them all that they worked for?
  3. Why does it seem more than a coincidence that just when the boomers stand ready to cash-in, the government wants to open our community chest to the rest of the world?
  4. What actions, if any, by our government could have led us down such a path?
  5. How low would they sink to do it?

Some of the rules “they” changed along the way

  • Permitted unqualified borrowers home loans at any cost. Others will pay for the foreclosure mess with decreased property values and increased insurance.
  • Permitted credit to unqualified consumers. From college students to seniors. We pay for this mess with higher rates.
  • Tend to and treat all indigents and illegal aliens in our hospitals. Others will pay higher insurance premiums to cover the costs. Increased health risks too?
  • Amnesty for illegal aliens. It may be your job and vote they take next.
  • Deny tort reform. Others will pay higher insurance premiums to cover the judgments.
  • Government health care. Take it or leave it – cradle to grave.
  • Abortion. It’s part of women’s health care. Hands off!
  • Eugenics. New government programs for those who just don’t measure up to the new standards of health.
  • Special needs baby. Dead baby
  • Congressional health care. Not for you…silly
  • Borrow, borrow, borrow. We’ll raise taxes!
  • Spend, spend, spend. Let the children pay for it.
  • Print, print, print. We’ll raise taxes - Let the children pay for it - Is anybody listening?
  • Decreasing treasuries with higher yields. Get the Chinese to buy more!
  • Leadership coming from the best tax cheats in the country. “Just a hiccup”.
  • Higher corporations taxes. Push more corporations overseas.
  • More people out of work in their seasoned years. Lowers final 10-year Social Security contribution thus lowers benefits.
  • More seasoned workers with reduced earnings in their later years. Lowers final 10-year Social Security contribution thus lowers benefits.

Can it be more than a coincidence? Or could it be that since Lynden Johnson’s “War on Poverty” the government has been working hard behind our backs? Once affirmative action policies were initiated we began living in the two Americas John Edwards spoke of. In America #1, people play according to the ever-changing rules, set forth by government bureaucrats while in America #2, people remain ever dependent on America #1 to keep playing by these new rules.

A Review of Taxes in the House Democrat Health Care Bill

From Americans for Tax Reform --

H.R. 3962, the "Affordable Health Care for America Act" has been introduced--all 1990 pages of it. This gargantuan beast contains thirteen new tax hikes. Here they all are, with description and page number (PDF version).

Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent ($670,000-$750,000). Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.

Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.

Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).

Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.)

Denial of Tax Deduction for Employer Health Plans Coordinating with Medicare Part D (Page 327): This would further erode private sector participation in delivery of Medicare services.

Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses (Page 336): Imposes an income surtax of 5.4 percent on MAGI over $500,000 ($1 million married filing jointly). MAGI adds back in the itemized deduction for margin loan interest. This would raise the top marginal tax rate in 2011 from 39.6 percent under current law to 45 percent—a new effective top rate.

Excise Tax on Medical Devices (Page 339): Imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers equal to 2.5 percent of the wholesale price. It excludes retail sales and unspecified medical devices sold to the general public.

Corporate 1099-MISC Information Reporting (Page 344): Requires that 1099-MISC forms be issued to corporations as well as persons for trade or business payments. Current law limits to just persons for small business compliance complexity reasons. Also expands reporting to exchanges of property.

Delay in Worldwide Allocation of Interest (Page 345): Delays for nine years the worldwide allocation of interest, a corporate tax relief provision from the American Jobs Creation Act.

Limitation on Tax Treaty Benefits for Certain Payments (Page 346): Increases taxes on U.S. employers with overseas operations looking to avoid double taxation of earnings.

Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.

Application of “More Likely Than Not” Rule (Page 357): Publicly-traded partnerships and corporations with annual gross receipts in excess of $100 million have raised standards on penalties. If there is a tax underpayment by these taxpayers, they must be able to prove that the estimated tax paid would have more likely than not been sufficient to cover final tax liability.

Tea Party Patriot Weekly Action Alert; House plans to unveil the House Health Care Legislation Today

Patriots,

We see the dismay our efforts are causing Senator Reid & Speaker Pelosi -- let's keep up the good work.

The following is from our national coordinators...

According to Politico, today, Thursday, October 29 at 10:00 am, the Democrats in the House plan to unveil the House Health Care Legislation. If you are within driving distance of DC and are able to attend with signs in opposition to government takeover of health care, we encourage you to do so.

The phone calls, emails, faxes, and protests have been working. While it is hard work, please keep up the effort. It appears that our efforts are working and right now the Senate does not have the 60 votes necessary to end a filibuster but we want to keep the pressure on so that this holds true.

Thursday:

Call the 25 of Blue Dog Democrats in the House plus your own Congressman and tell them why you do not want the government takeover of health care and a public option.

If you have extra time and unlimited long distance, consider calling not just the DC offices but also the local district offices.

Friday:

Call the remaining Blue Dog Democrats in the House plus your own Congressman and tell them why you do not want the government takeover of health care and a public option.

If you have extra time and unlimited long distance, consider calling not just the DC offices but also the local district offices.

Saturday:

Read the Tea Party Patriots Blog at New Patriot Journal.

Catching President Obama in a lie 40 Likeminded Democrats’ Will Vote to Kill Health Bill if it Doesn’t Get Floor Vote on Pro-Life Amendment

Again showing they will do and say anything to pass a version of socialized health care, we have the so-called bastion of integrity, President Obama, now caught in a hair splitting lie...
Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com that President Barack Obama told him in a telephone conversation that when he said in his Sept. 9 speech to a joint session of Congress that “under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions” he was not talking about the actual bill drafted in the House but about the president’s own health care plan—which has never been written.

Can somebody call Rep. Charlie Wilson -- he may have a couple words about this!

Seeing that he has been lied to, Rep. Stupak is throwing in a well needed monkey wrench of the plans for ramming any version of the Health Care bill through the House....

Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com yesterday that he has organized a group of “about 40 likeminded Democrats” who will vote to kill the health-care bill if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) does not allow a floor vote on his amendment to prohibit federal funds from going to insurance plans that cover abortion.

Under Stupak’s plan, the approximately 40 Democrats in his camp would join with all House Republicans in voting to defeat the special House “rule” that would set the terms for debating and amending the health-care bill on the House floor when it is brought up for a final vote. If a majority of the House does not first vote to approve this rule, the health-care bill itself cannot be brought to the floor. (Click here for video).

If this is pulled off and these Democrats are joined by all the House Republicans they will have the 218 votes needed to kill the bill in the House.

We work on getting the names of the 40 House members so calls of support can be made to their offices. But this shows that everyday we keep these bills from moving closer to PBO's desk, more and more people are coming out against the way these bills are being cobbled together with half truths and lies.

Pelosi now playing word games on "Public Option"

The wicked progressive witch of the west, Speaker Ninny Pelosi, is out trying to fool the public over the "public option" being pushed in the House & Senate versions of the proposed health care bills.

True to progressive form, and much like this past presidential election, the left is not above spinning the truth in their push for government run health care....

A government-sponsored "public option" for health care lives, though it may be more attractive to skeptics if it goes by a different moniker, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday.

In an appearance at a Florida senior center, the Democratic leader referred to the so-called public option as "the consumer option." Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., appeared by Pelosi's side and used the term "competitive option."

"You'll hear everyone say, 'There's got to be a better name for this,'" Pelosi said. "When people think of the public option, public is being misrepresented, that this is being paid for with their public dollars." (Breitbart)

Huh... unless they plan on buying more green ink from Office Max for printing more money -- I wonder exactly what dollars will be used to pay for this public option? Obama Money? Monopoly money?

No matter where the dollars come from, no matter what they call the dollars -- one way or the other it will be coming out of our pockets. But while there plans for government run health care are slowly falling apart -- they will say or do anything for passing their socialized health care proposals.

All of our calls, faxes, letters, rallies have slowed the passing of these bills -- they are on the ropes and we must push even harder now if we want to stop this. We can do it! Their scrambling is proof we have them on the ropes! It is only with more calls, more letter, more faxes & more rallies that we can do this.

Remember, every day we keep any version of the government run health care bill one step farther away from the insidious inking it will get if it reaches President Obama's desk -- we are winning daily victories.

Patriot Alert: Left is Pushing House Members for Public Option

Patriots,

We all know NOW is crunch time if we are going to stop a government take over of our health care system. Proving the administration is worried, we see them attacking anyone, from the insurance companies and the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, that is not supportive of their now estimated at $1 Trillion effort of further destroying our economy with government run health care.

I do not know how much more clear this could be... if we do not make little sacrifices and attend the rallies hosted by Tea Party Patriot groups, if we do not make the calls and send the letters to the 13 Senators and ask to vote for No Cloture (click here), if we do not pressure the Blue Dogs in the House (click here), if we do not continue this fight with every once of energy we have -- you can be sure -- the government will take over our health care system much like they did many of the banks and auto industry.

We want to thank fellow Tea Party Patriot and 9.12 member Paula for sending us this link from a Daily KOS blogger about a post on Open Left urging progressives to contact targeted House members.

From Open Left --

I am receiving new information tonight that the House DOES NOT have 218 "solid' yes votes for health care reform with a Medicare +5% public option. Representative John Larson's claim earlier today that the House had the votes appear to have included at least 12, and as many as 15, Representatives who are "lean yes" votes.

Further, I am told that if the leadership does not confirm 218 "solid" yes votes by the end of the 9:30 a.m. Democratic caucus meeting tomorrow morning, they will probably include the negotiated rate public option in the bill that is sent to the floor, not the Medicare +5% public option. At the very latest, we have until 2 p.m. to get the votes.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009 - MELT THE PHONE LINES DAY

Attend the Medina Tea Party Patriots Health Care Forum (Click for details)

Tea Party Patriots will be making calls all day long to targeted elected officials asking them to vote no on government takeover of health care. Be prepared to make calls today. We want to melt the phone lines and make sure the staffers hear us.

We are including the DC office phone numbers and fax numbers below in case you would also like to call and fax directly to the Senators.

IMPORTANT TIP REGARDING PHONE CALLING FROM A FELLOW TEA PARTY PATRIOT:

When you call the Senators or Congressmen's offices, identify yourself as a Tea Party Patriot then leave a message telling why you are asking them to vote NO on government takeover of health care and cap and trade, ask the staffer to read the message back to you. One lady found last week that the staffer only took the message, "Vote no on health care reform."

The lady said she is in favor of health care reform but not in favor of the government taking it over. She asked the staffer to listen to her again and take the correct message. It may take you a little more time but it might be worth it to insure that the message is taken correctly.

PriceWaterhouseCooper released an independent study of the Senate Finance Committee version of the government takeover of health care bill. The study showed that American family's budgets will be severely impacted by the bill and that health insurance premiums will increase dramatically. You may wish to read the study and use this as supporting documentation when you contact the Senators.

Have the Tea Party Patriots been issued a challenge?

Patriots while temporarily halting the country killing initiatives of Cap & Trade and any one of the health care proposals, we must know our hardest work is yet to come. You can be assured, since we slammed the front door shut, they will be coming through the back door, down the chimney, through the window and up through the cracks in the floor boards in creative ways of enacting as much as they can with this legislative larceny.

Patriots we know more than 6 people showed for the D.C. 9.12 event like the media is inaccurately reporting, we know had it not been for the efforts of all the groups involved in this struggle -- Cap & Trade, along with a terrible health care reform would have been forced upon the American public several months ago.

Our resolve must not and must never waiver! This is what some are anticipating and it sounds as if our hearts, souls, & commitment are being challenged.

From Bloomberg.com --
President Barack Obama told a group of Democratic Party donors in San Francisco he’s determined to outlast his critics to move ahead on his agenda, including revamping the health-care system and financial regulations.

“Some of our opponents think they are going to wear us down,” Obama said at a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee last night at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. “I’m not tired, I’m refreshed.”

Patriots -- are you ready to meet this challenge head on? Let's send the message in our October Surprise... Like our Colors, Patriots don't run!

October Surprise Rally at the Cleveland Clinic

ACTION ALERT

10/15/09

Contact: Clevelandteaparty@gmail.com

Tea Party Patriot October Surprise

In the next few weeks, Tea Party Patriots will challenge you to keep our republic. It is going to take effort, energy, time, and commitment. It is a multi-prong approach that involves protests, faxes, and visits to Congressional Offices both in DC and at local offices.

The focus of the October Surprise will be asking our Senators and Congressmen to vote NO on government takeover of health care and NO on Cap and Trade. The October Surprise is intended to get the media saying, my god they're back, bigger than ever and where are they coming from?

Last Thursday, in an emergency conference call, over 100 national and local Tea Party Patriot organizers around the country unanimously supported a recent proposal to hold new week long rallies in over 650 cities around the country.

On October 19th, in unison with our fellow Tea Party Patriot groups holding these rallies across the country, the Cleveland Tea Party Patriots will send our message & host our rally at the world famous -- Cleveland Clinic.
Tell your friends & neighbors -- invite your own doctor to attend the rally! This is the start of the final push towards government run health care. This is NOT the health care reform we need or the kind of health care reform most Americans want. As Americans, it our duty & responsibility to stop the hijacking of our country! This can only be done with your help!

Regarding the health care battles in D.C., the administration said today, "We' re not tired......we' re just getting started." Let's meet this challenge head on with a huge crowd at the Cleveland Clinic and send the message back -- "Neither are the Tea Party Patriots -- so bring it on!"

For more information, sign ideas, or setting up car pools go to the Forum section on our website (Click Here). For more information on the current Tea Party Patriot Health Care Action Alerts (Click Here).

This rally is being hosted by the Cleveland, Lake County, Geauga County, Lorain County & Medina County Tea Party Patriot groups.

See you on Monday!

Cleveland 9-12 hosts Weekend Protest at the Plain Dealer

A big problem in our country today is the MSM, the fishwraps called newspapers and how they routinely misrepresent the facts to fit their agenda. A perfect example of this would be the recent Sissy March in DC. Approximately 10,000 gays, queers, he/she's and freaks had a sissyfest in DC for Gay Rights. The MSM and newspapers couldn't give this event enough coverage and was the topic of the day(s).

On the other hand -- 2 million conservatives from across the country gather in DC on 9/12 and the coverage was scant at best and crowd estimates were not even close to being accurate. Here in Cleveland we are routinely subject to the eye-bleeding print of the paper not fit to line a bird cage or potty train a puppy with -- The Plain Dealer (or Propaganda Dealer for some of us).

The tree-killing rag, The Plain Dealer (PD), routinely misreports conservative events or news at a national and local level. This rag, the PD, is one of the main reasons Cuyahoga County is in the situation we are in today as the PD routinely endorsed and gave out blanket endorsements for many of the officials involved in the Cuyahoga County corruption scandal. Not to mention how they always spread the propaganda for the silver butt bullet projects pressed by the so-called leaders of this area.

Topping off the propaganda being spewed by this slowly dying fishwrap would be none other than Connie Schultz and her vile scribblings. If Schultz is not pushing propaganda for her husband Senator Sherrod "Single Payer" Brown she is usually heaving attacks on anything conservative -- or better yet, anything that is not in line with her progressive thoughts.

The below rallies being hosted by the Cleveland 9.12 is only the start for what many of the conservative groups have in OH for the PD. Along with this, a campaign targeted at the few advertisers the PD has left will soon follow shortly thereafter.

From the Cleveland 9.12 Group --

Operation: Can You Hear Us Now?

Over 120 rallies across the country are scheduled for Saturday, October 17 to protest bias in the mainstream media. The Cleveland Downtown 9.12 Project is holding two rallies.

[1] Rush Hour Rally

Friday, October 16, 4:30-6pm
The Plain Dealer 1801 Superior Ave. Cleveland, OH 44113

[2] Nationwide Media Protest Rally

Saturday, October 17 1pm-3pm
The Plain Dealer Production Center
4800 Tiedeman Rd , Brooklyn , Ohio 44144

Over 1.2 million Tea Party Patriots and 9.12 members marched on Washington , DC to protest legislators who are no longer listening to their constituents. Rally-goers protested, e.g., reckless spending, big government, and corruption. Much of American did not know about this protest (the largest in US history) because most of the mainstream media failed to report it. So we are taking the protest to the media itself.

Tea Party Patriots -- "Our Time is NOW!"

H/T Jeff & Amy of the Medina County Tea Party Patriots --

Please act NOW
Time is running out!

Keep focusing on the 13 Senators as well as Snowe, Lincoln and Pryor.

There is only one thing that can stop our government from taking over the healthcare system – that is YOU and millions of grassroots activists like you! We must do this NOW. There is no time to wait.

We had a great conference call Wednesday evening to discuss the current healthcare legislation. From the information shared on the call, we have revised our action plan for the week. We have added a few additional action items to our original Action Alert from Monday night.

According to the experts in DC, the legislation will probably go to the floor of the Senate on October 19th and to the floor of the House on October 26th. So what we must do NOW is continue the action plan from earlier in the week and take the following action steps:

Contact Senators Snowe, Lincoln and Pryor

First action step is to contact Senator Olympia Snowe from Maine and the two Senators from Arkansas. These Senators need to hear from us more than any other Senators. When contacting their offices, let them know that while you may not live in their states, their votes affect all Americans and that you’d be happy to support their next campaign, if they listen to the American people. If they don't listen to the American people, you would be happy to contribute to the campaign of their opposition. Their contact information follows:

Senator Olympia Snowe (ME)
Chief of Staff: Unknown
Washington, DC: (202) 224-5344 / (202) 224-1946 fax
Auburn: (207) 786-2451 / (207) 782-1438 fax

Portland: (207) 874-0883 / (207) 874-7631 fax
Presque Isle: (207) 764-5124 / (207) 764-6420 fax

Senator Blanche Lincoln (AR)
Chief of Staff: Elizabeth Burks (

Washington, DC: (202) 224-4843 / (202) 228-1371 fax
Little Rock: (800) 352-9364 / (501) 375-7064 fax

Senator Mark Pryor (AR)

Little Rock: (501) 324-6336 / (501) 324-5320 fax

According to a recent AP article, Snowe is looking more favorably at the bill, since it received a “positive” cost report. Read the full article
here. We really need to apply the pressure. If she swings to the other side, there is a greater chance of the Senate getting the 60 votes it needs for cloture.

Help Kill The Bill

Together we can “Kill the Bill”
Focusing on 13 Senators who could turn the tide

Over the past couple of weeks, we have put the pressure on the Senate Finance committee to let them know that we do not want the government to takeover healthcare. The time has come where the legislation will be voted on within the next 2 to 3 weeks, and we need to turn up the heat!

One of our messages over the next week needs to be No Vote for Cloture. This means that if we can get one Democrat Senator of the 60 not to vote for cloture, we can kill the bill! According to one healthcare expert, there are 13 Senators that we have the possibility of turning to cast a vote against the bill! Of these 13 Senators, two are up for reelection in 2010. The time has come for us to target and pressure these 13 Senators!

You can do your part and stand shoulder to shoulder with other Patriots this week by applying pressure to these 13 Senators.

To make this as easy as possible, the Tea Party Patriots have broken the country into five regions and the 13 Senators into five groups. This allows us as a national movement to stagger the calls from each region, inundating the Senators with calls every day this week. For our region, we are being requested to call:

Tonight: Group #3 (Pryor, Warner, Begich)
Tuesday: Group #4 (Byrd, Carper)
Wednesday: Group #5 (Webb, Tester)
Thursday: Group #1 (Bayh, Bennet, Lieberman)
Friday: Group #2 (Nelson, Lincoln, Landrieu)

All of the contact information is listed below. Also, please target the Senators' local district offices when calling, as the local offices are not used to getting pressure like the DC offices. When making your calls and sending your emails, please be sure to make four simple points:

• No Government Takeover of Health Care
• No Public Option
• No Mandates
• No Vote for Cloture

We ask that you also email the Chief of Staff for each Senator.

Of course, you can always do more and call more than just the one group assigned to your region that day! If you want to call more, we would suggest calling and emailing the Senators in Group 1, because these are the ones that are up for reelection in 2010.

If you want to do even more, please focus on the Senate Finance Committee. You can get all of their contact information here (
http://teapartypatriots.ning.com/page/health-care).

One last point – when calling a Senator' office from another state, you can tell them that their vote will affect all Americans. You can also let them know you will be happy to contribute to the campaign of their opponent the next time they are up for reelection!

Thanks for all you are doing! Together we can Kill This Bill!

Van Jones & Sherrod Brown—what do they have in common?

The Apollo Alliance!

Mr. Jones was a long-time board member and Mr. Brown has this organization’s support for his proposed legislation called “Investments for Manufacturing Progress and Clean Technology (IMPACT) Act.

We recently wrote to Mr. Brown asking him to vote “NO” on the Cap & Trade Legislation; this is his reply:

Thank you for sharing your views about clean energy legislation.

Effective clean energy legislation will reduce climate pollution and promote the production of renewable energy—but most importantly it will ensure the creation of new clean energy jobs and industries. Clean energy legislation must also ensure the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers and protect consumers by keeping utility rates affordable. We must work to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by making America a global leader in clean energy manufacturing.

For this reason, I recently announced legislation called the Investments for Manufacturing Progress and Clean Technology (IMPACT) Act. This legislation, which was included in the House energy bill, would support manufacturers' transition to the clean energy economy and ensure clean energy jobs are created here in the U.S. This legislation would create a revolving loan fund for small and medium size manufacturers to retool and expand facilities to produce clean energy technology and energy efficient products. It is estimated this measure will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

I appreciate hearing your input on this important topic. As clean energy legislation continues to be discussed in Congress, I will work to ensure that an unfair burden is not placed on Ohio families and businesses. I will only support legislation that creates new jobs and economic opportunities across Ohio.

Thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,

Sherrod Brown
United States Senator

In other words, reading between the lines, he’s voting “yes” on Cap & Trade!

Incidentally, at the time Mr. Brown announced this legislation (June 17, 2009—how’d we miss this one OHIO???), his Senatorial website proclaimed:

"Brown Announces New Bill Providing $30 Billion in Funds to Help Auto Suppliers, Manufacturers Retool for Clean Energy Jobs"

"In Anticipation of Comprehensive Energy and Climate Legislation, Senator Joins Business, Environmental Leader to Announce Plan to Respond to Industry Credit Crisis, Invest in Domestic Clean Energy Manufacturing"

“Brown was joined today by clean energy, business, and labor leaders in announcing this initiative. The IMPACT Act is supported by the Apollo Alliance, Alliance for American Manufacturing, Blue Green Alliance, Campaign for America’s Future, Environmental Defense Fund, High Road Strategies, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Manufacturing Skill Standards Council, MAPA Group, Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Policy Matters Ohio & Ohio Apollo, Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), Shepherd Advisors, Solar Energy Industries Association, United Steelworkers, and United Automobile Workers.”

“The only way to put our existing manufacturing sector to work and to scale up to meet the new demand created by the cap-and-trade program is to have a dedicated source of funding for investments in component manufacturing,” Phil Angelides, Chairman of the Apollo Alliance said. “We are proud to support Sen. Brown’s bill, which will allow manufacturers across the country to tap into clean and efficient energy markets.”

On the same day, the Apollo Alliance website announced:

“Apollo Alliance Joins Sen. Sherrod Brown to Introduce Bill to Help Manufacturers Retool for Clean Energy Economy”

Then, as recently as September 22, 2009, the Apollo Alliance Daily Digest stated:

“Senator Sherrod Brown (D. - Ohio) wants to add money for clean energy manufacturing to the climate bill. Senator Brown’s IMPACT ACT - a plan to implement a $30 billion dollar revolving loan fund to strengthen green manufacturing - was influenced by the Apollo Alliance’s GreenMAP.”

We have a few questions for Mr. Brown. First, though, allow us to refresh your memory.

The Apollo Alliance helped draft the stimulus package that was passed earlier this year.

Harry Reid has even thanked The Apollo Alliance for helping with the final bill.

On their own website, The Apollo Alliance states, “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 – Opportunities for Cities and States is a memo prepared by Apollo’s research associate, Elena Foshay, that begins to answer some critical implementation questions. The memo summarizes the clean energy, good job elements, answers a few frequently asked questions and discusses strategies for state and local leaders to implement.”

Question: Is it a coincidence then that Mr. Brown, who cast the deciding vote to pass the Stimulus,

(“The bill passed the Senate late Friday night with a vote of 60-38 after Democratic leadership held the vote open for several hours to allow one member, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, to return to Washington to cast the deciding vote)

is now working with the “architects” of that monstrosity on more legislation?

Enter SEIU and Mr. Gerald Hudson, International Executive Vice President, SEIU.

Mr. Hudson is on The Apollo Alliance Board of Directors.

Mr. Brown has a daughter that works for SEIU (sorry to drag her into this, it’s not about her).

Mr. Brown has, over his career, received $40,750 in campaign contributions from SEIU.

Question: Mr. Brown, have you sold Ohio’s vote on (more than one piece of legislation) the Cap & Trade legislation for Apollo’s verbal and financial support?

In our opinion, there seems to be an extreme conflict of interest here, Mr. Brown--do you represent Ohio or The Apollo Alliance and SEIU?

Looks like Mr. Brown has some explaining to do!

P.S. Think any of Ohio's news outlets will look into this?
