Ohio's titanic budget

The one issue that defies all my logic, is how increasing taxes can ever create jobs. To me it's simple mathematics. Take the idiots, I mean representatives in Ohio. They've run the state budget for years into the ground. They've now got us so far in the hole that both sides say the only way to plug the holes in the sinking ship is to significantly raise taxes. They will turn Ohio, which is already rated one of the worst business friendly states, into an all out assault on small business.

First we have a budget that was submitted by the house that is complete BS. I'm not a genius, and even I know that when the economy is down, people earn less money, and the state will collect less in taxes. Yet the house, and Governor Tax'em Ted Strickland pushed it through anyway with a wink wink and a smile. Only the government can operate this way. And only when enough people, taxpayers, don't pay attention.

Last weekend my husband and I had a famous "Whiteys" burger with some fellow Cleveland tea party patriots. At one point, while talking about our business, my husband shared that his biggest professional regret was that we moved our business to Ohio. Now, that's a whole other blog, but, there is something our representatives need to be reminded of. Just as easily as we sold a house, bought another, packed an office, and moved our key people here, we can do it again and go elsewhere. Do we want to? No. But it does come down to a funny fact call math.

I'm sick of watching politicians throw money around like everyday is Christmas. I'm sick of politicians trying to make the case that increasing taxes and inventing new ones will solve the worlds woes. Every single dollar they take is another dollar you have to play catch up to earn. At what point do you cut bait and run?? Well, it's already been happening. People have been fleeing Ohio for years. According to a recent Wall Street Journal article,
Research from Richard Vedder of Ohio University, found that from 1998 to 2007, more than 1,100 people every day including Sundays and holidays moved from the nine highest income-tax states such as California, New Jersey, New York and Ohio and relocated mostly to the nine tax-haven states with no income tax, including Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire and Texas. We also found that over these same years the no-income tax states created 89% more jobs and had 32% faster personal income growth than their high-tax counterparts.

So, while unemployment rises in our state, our elected officials continue to raise the taxes, making it all but impossible for people like me and my husband to give raises, offer more benefits or increase bonuses. The money simply isn't there. Our officials have made damn sure of that.

Did the greater prosperity in low-tax states happen by chance? Is it coincidence that the two highest tax-rate states in the nation, California and New York, have the biggest fiscal holes to repair? No. Dozens of academic studies -- old and new -- have found clear and irrefutable statistical evidence that high state and local taxes repel jobs and businesses.

More recently, Barry W. Poulson of the University of Colorado last year examined many factors that explain why some states grew richer than others from 1964 to 2004 and found "a significant negative impact of higher marginal tax rates on state economic growth." In other words, soaking the rich doesn't work. To the contrary, middle-class workers end up taking the hit.

While we flounder, there are states who are getting it right. States with officials who have respect for the funds that are collected and dispersed. Officials that treat a state budget like it was their own money and not a monopoly game. Look at Texas.
Gov. Perry and Texas have the jobs and prosperity model exactly right. Texas created more new jobs in 2008 than all other 49 states combined. And Texas is the only state other than Georgia and North Dakota that is cutting taxes this year.

Hopefully Ohio can get it right. If not, Texas is looking better and better. Plus, I've always had a thing for warmer climates and cowboys...

Awakening of the States

What does Ohio have in common with Louisiana, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, West Virginia, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Alabama, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Idaho, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Kentucky, Alaska, Indiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Minnesota, South Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Texas, New Hampshire, Missouri, Iowa, Montana, Michigan, Arizona, Washington, and Oklahoma?

All have introduced Sovereignty Resolutions in their legislatures.

Are you surprised? That's a daunting list. Had I named just a few other states you might have guessed what they have in common. Instead I listed them all in hopes that it will have the same impact on you that it did on me when I first saw it. My jaw dropped.

Sure, some of these states have been in the news because of their sovereignty resolutions, and you have probably read or heard something about it. But this might be the first time you have seen the complete list of states. It's the first I have known there were more than just a few. This is not a small movement. This is a cry out against the excessive power grab emanating from Washington D.C., especially from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I probably don't need to tell you, though, that it's one thing to get these resolutions introduced into legislature, but quite another to get them passed and then signed by the governor. This is going to be an uphill battle. Contact your state representatives and senators and urge them to support your state's sovereignty resolution.

In Ohio you can read all the details and sign a petition here: http://sovereign.ohiofreedom.com/wordpress/. For information about the effort in all the states, visit the Tenth Amendment Center here: http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/.

Amendment X: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Could it be any simpler?

Will we get a Minister of Finance?

Call it what you want, Finance Super Cop, Minister of Finance or Banking Czar - it is nothing more than - 'more' government intrusion into the private market....

The Federal Reserve could become the supercop for "too big to fail" companies capable of causing another financial meltdown under a proposal being seriously considered by the White House.

The Obama administration told industry officials on Friday that it was leaning toward making such a recommendation, according to officials who attended a private one-hour meeting between President Barack Obama's economic advisers and representatives from about a dozen banks, hedge funds and other financial groups.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and other officials made it clear they were not inclined to divide the job among various regulators as has been suggested by industry and some federal regulators. Geithner told the group that one organization needs to be held responsible for monitoring systemwide risk.

"Committees don't make decisions," said Geithner, according to one participant.

Officials from the Treasury Department and National Economic Council, which hosted the meeting, told participants that the Fed was considered the most likely candidate for the job, according to several officials who attended or were briefed on the discussions.

The administration officials said a legislative proposal would likely be sent to Capitol Hill in June with the expectation the House Financial Services Committee, led by Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., would consider the measure before the Independence Day recess.

The officials requested anonymity because the meeting had not been publicly announced and they were not authorized to discuss it.

A Treasury Department statement provided to The Associated Press on Friday confirmed Geithner's position that he wants a "single independent regulator with responsibility for systemically important firms and critical payment and settlement systems."

A spokesman said Geithner also is open to creating a council to "coordinate among the various regulators, including the systemic risk regulator."

The Fed itself hasn't taken a position on whether it should have the job, although Chairman Ben Bernanke has said the Fed would have to be involved in any effort to identify and resolve systemwide risk. (Yahoo News)

Big Government wants to shut you up!!

Here is a letter I received by a Cleveland Tea Party attendee. How long will we be able to speak out or speak up? We've already seen that if you attended or were involved in planning a tea party you warrant additional scrutiny by our beloved DHS. Squashing our first amendment rights WILL be the downfall of this nation. Make no mistake about it..

To All Concerned Citizens:

On Thursday of this week the FCC begins hearings, as directed by the President, regarding conservative talk radio. The situation is basically this: The head of the FCC is a political appointee of the President. The committee is made up of 2 Democrats and 1 Republican. The Democrats hold majority power in both the House of Representatives and in the Senate so the filibuster option is not there.

The President’s plan is simple: The committee will hear and decide what they have been directed to decide. That is that talk radio needs to be monitored to assure that it is “fair and balanced.” The recommendation of the board will be to fund community organizers to monitor talk radio stations all across the country and to report back to the FCC.
The reports will say the topics being aired are not fair and balanced.
The FCC will then MANDATE to the radio station owners that they bring in opposing views and give them equal time or else…

Radio is a commercial venture. It is funded by paid commercials. Companies do not purchase commercial time on radio stations that do not have the audience they want to target or the talk show host that they believe in. Liberal talk radio has never been successful in America because of several reasons but mostly because no one wants to listen to it. So, companies do not buy air time; it must be constantly subsidized.
The point is that when this begins to take place the AM radio stations will no longer be viable commercial ventures. (Within all this will be a myriad of reports that radio stations will be forced to file documenting/ proving they are in compliance).

At this point the only options left to the radio station ownerships will be to go to a Top 40 programming format or to sell out. When these actions take place there will no longer be an open forum in the country where information, other than what the elite lawmakers want us to hear, will be available. “Americans will only hear what they want you to know.”

Further and even more important is the fact that this move by the President is an aggressive and a direct move in violation of Americans First Amendment Rights of Freedom of Speech. At this point we, as a country, are fast moving toward a fascist government. Qualifications for such a government are: Control of the Banking Institutions (they are now under Full Federal control), Control of the Military, Control of the printing and distribution of all money by way of the Federal Reserve Bank, Control of large manufacturing(Control of automobile manufacturing and with the passing of Cap and Trade control of all manufacturing), Control of Transportation(FAA, Commerce Department, Federal Highways Commission), Federal Control of public Health Care, Control of Education all across America including, most importantly, what our children learn(the teachers union is the puppet for this goal), and Control of the Press/Mass Media including AM Talk Radio.

The simple fact that the ACLU is nowhere to be found in this most vital of all issues is a clue as to who is directing the work and which way it is going.

If Americans can only understand and then become passionate about the fact that we/they must protect our First and Second Amendment Rights we may then have a chance in the coming years to correct at least part of this massive Federal take over. Without our First and Second Amendment Rights coarse correction will be all but impossible.

Americans MUST ban together in a letter writing and phone calling campaign to all federal representatives telling them we do not want any infringement against our rights in the arena of Free Speech including talk radio. I know and can guarantee that if we do not stop this now there will be no turning back. Unless we stop these actions now we will no longer be able to call our country the “Land of the Free…”

But..It isn't just the radio waves they want control of, they want the internet too. Obama's new regulatory czar nominee, Cass Sunstein, wants the internet to be "fair too". Who decides fair?? They do of course.

From Worldnet daily

Perhaps Sunstein's most novel idea regarding the Internet was his proposal, in
his book "Nudge," written with Richard Thaler, for a "Civility Check" for e-mails and other online communications.

"The modern world suffers from insufficient civility," they wrote. "Every hour of every day, people send angry e-mails they soon regret, cursing people they barely know (or even worse, their friends and loved ones). A few of us have learned a simple rule: don't send an angry e-mail in the heat of the moment. File it, and wait a day before you send it. (In fact, the next day you may have calmed down so much that you forget even to look at it. So much the better.) But many people either haven't learned the rule or don’t always follow it. Technology could easily help. In fact, we have no doubt that technologically savvy types could design a helpful program by next month." That's where the "Civility Check" comes in.

"We propose a Civility Check that can accurately tell whether the e-mail you're about to send is angry and caution you, 'warning: this appears to be an uncivil e-mail. do you really and truly want to send it?'" they wrote. "(Software already exists to detect foul language. What we are proposing is more subtle, because it is easy to send a really awful e-mail message that does not contain any four-letter words.)

A stronger version, which people could choose or which might be the default, would say, 'warning: this appears to be an uncivil e-mail. this will not be sent unless you ask to resend in 24 hours.' With the stronger version, you might be able to bypass the delay with some work (by inputting, say, your Social Security number and your grandfather’s birth date, or maybe by solving some irritating math problem!)."

Hey, but no worries. I'm sure they have our best interest in mind. I mean, if everyone is more civil and has a 24 hour waiting period to post emails, we say our pleases and thankyou's, the world will be a happier place right? (Insert sounds of a bubbling bong)

President & Congress Scheming Now To Pass Amnesty for Millions of Illegal Aliens in U.S.

Hello fellow Tea Party Patriots!

Our friend, Steve Salvi of Ohio Jobs & Justice PAC, will be speaking at our July 3rd Freedomfest about the financial impact of illegal immigration on everyday 'legal' Americans. Steve has forwarded us this below press release and is asking for our help...

PRESIDENT & CONGRESS SCHEMING NOW TO PASS
AMNESTY FOR MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS IN U.S.

In spite of voter opposition to granting amnesty for illegal aliens, president Obama and Democratic Congressional leaders [Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) and Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)] are now scheming to pass a massive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens in the United States.

Just last week a Subcommittee on Immigration held amnesty hearings to gain momentum for legislation which aims to legalize over 12 million illegal aliens. The hearing was packed with pro-amnesty advocates to ensure the testimony would be favorable. Sadly, the issue of legalizing illegal worker to compete for work with the already 13 million unemployed Americans was never mentioned by Senator Schumer (D-NY), who chaired the Subcommittee and is a strong amnesty advocate.

Proponents of amnesty, which includes Ohio’s junior Senator Sherrod Brown, and a number of Ohio members of the U.S. House, euphemistically and fraudulently refer to their amnesty scheme as "comprehensive immigration reform." By referring to their amnesty legislation as "comprehensive immigration reform" they hope to fool the public into believing it’s not about granting amnesty for millions of illegal alien criminals.

What can you can do to stop Amnesty?

Call your two U.S. Senators AND members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Tell them you oppose Amnesty for illegal aliens. Phone numbers are available on the Ohio Jobs & Justice PAC website (sorry Ohio contact information only at this time)

Visit your local Congressional offices to complain (take your friends too) Write Letters to the Editor.

If you have access to a computer, visit the Ohio Jobs & Justice PAC website http://www.ojjpac.org). OJJPAC.org has lots of information and ways to participate in fighting illegal immigration. It’s free!

Ohio Jobs & Justice PAC is a non-partisan educational civil rights and advocacy organization focusing on important public policy issues including the effects of illegal immigration on the civil rights of Americans.
