Call Your Senator; Repeal the CLASS Act

REPEAL THE CLASS ACT NOW!

A few weeks ago the bipartisan majority on the Democrat led Senate Appropriations Committee voted to defund part of the ObamCare law, the CLASS Act. The head of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, and other Administrative wonks finally realized that the unsustainable program would be an albatross around their necks if they didn’t shelve it now.

However, it is not gone, just merely waiting in the background for some new infusion of taxpayer cash, to once again forge creative financing for the current Administration. This is where the “savings” in the ObamaCare bill came from and now it is finally out and for the whole nation to see the enormous failure of this program.

Polls are continuing to show that the law is going out of favor with most people as the following Reuters article highlighted...

(Reuters) - Americans' opinion of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform in October reached its lowest point since the law passed in March 2010, according to a monthly poll by the non-profit, non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation.

The view of the law has been roughly evenly split since its passage, but in October 51 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion, while 34 percent said their opinion was favorable, poll results released on Friday showed.

Although Democrats were still much likelier to view the law favorably than Republicans or independents, the percentage of Democrats who said they and their families were better off under the healthcare law dropped significantly to 27 percent in October from 43 percent in September.
Yesterday on the Senate floor Senators Barrasso (WY), Thune (SD) and Sessions (AL) were discussing the need to repeal this program altogether and they  are right. Now is the time to get rid of another failed government program that would have only been yet another taxpayer subsidized program for years to come. Richard Foster the long time actuary for the government said this was a “recipe for disaster” and as such the Administration finally cried “uncle” and defunded it, so why would we keep it around in any form?

Let’s see government shrink by at least one failed program and find out who the real heroes are in Congress by asking all of our Senators to Repeal the CLASS ACT now!
Call Senator Brown & Senator Portman and ask them to support S720 to
Repeal the CLASS Act.

Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) supports Gang of Six Plan & Debt Ceiling Increase

In a recent interview on ABC's "Top Line" Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) indicated his support for the short on fact & long on empty promises "Gang of Six" proposal. Senator Portman also supports raising the debt ceiling....

From ABC's "Top Line" --
The bipartisan “Gang of Six” proposal on the deficit continues to draw attention from rank-and-file senators, even as House leaders come out in opposition to any plan that includes new revenues as part of a deal.

“It's a step in the right direction,” Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, who was budget director under President George W. Bush, told us on ABC’s “Top Line” today. “It's the one effort out there where you've got Republicans and Democrats coming together. And I think it could actually mesh well with what I think is the ultimate solution here with regard to the debt limit increase.”

Portman said he disagrees with those in his party who say it’s not critical to increase the debt ceiling.
Please contact Senator Portman and remind him he was elected to stop the spending addiction in D.C., not make deals that allow even MORE spending! Tell him we do not need another Senator George Voinovich!

RedState's Open Letter Senators Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, Rob Portman, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio

Erick Erickson of RedState posted the following letter to Senators Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and our Senator from Ohio, Senator Rob Portman.

We could not agree more!

From RedState --
Welcome to the Senate.

It ain’t easy, is it?

Here’s the thing you need to know. Right now, you are probably telling yourself you need to be reasonable. You are probably telling yourself you need to cut a deal.

I’m willing to bet you are telling yourself you should do something short term and in six more months or whenever, after everything has calmed back down, revisit the issue.

Senators, you are fooling yourselves. And I bet you know it.

We have had, in the past 30 years, 17 deficit commissions. After almost each one, taxes have gone up, but the spending cuts have never happened.

Republicans before you have been quite reasonable. So reasonable in fact that the country is on the verge of bankruptcy.

And each time, they’ve gotten to the breaking point and decided, “let’s just do something to get us some breathing room and revisit it again in a few months.”

If you don’t fight, if you decide to take deal, make a compromise, or “let cooler heads prevail” at some point in the future, you’ll be no better than those who got us to this point. You will become them.

You went to Washington because Washington is broken. Pay very careful attention to the choices you are about to make. Because I suspect many of you are about to make the same choices the people before you who broke the system made. Don’t let fear, uncertainty, and market upset govern your decision making processes.

The only way out of this mess is to think different — to actually care enough to fight.

Senator Rob Portman (OH) Sounds off on High Gas Prices

From WKBN --
As prices at the pump continue to hover around $3.50 a gallon, one Ohio lawmaker says Washington needs to do more to encourage exploration of American resources.

Republican Senator Rob Portman says there's not enough work being done to look for oil and natural gas in this country.

He says in spite of discoveries of huge deposits of gas in the Marcellus and Utica formations in Ohio and other states, the government isn't doing enough to drill for it.

"I met some people yesterday who told me that the federal government is continuing to put road blocks in place for the development of natural gas. We need to be sure that we do that, because it's a fuel that we need for our electricity and power plants, but also, natural gas can be used in automobiles and trucks," Portman said.

Portman, who is a member of the Senate's Energy Committee, is pushing for more domestic exploration of oil and gas reserves to ease the country's dependence on foreign sources. (“Ohio Lawmaker Sounds off on High Gas Prices,” staff report, WKBN.com, 03/19/11)

Senator Rob Portman's First Legislation Focused On Ohio Jobs

Press Release
of
Senator Portman

Senator Portman's First Legislation
Focused On Ohio Jobs

Legislation Would Create Over One Million New Jobs
and Repeal Key Anti-Job Aspects of Democrat Healthcare Law

Monday, January 24, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Today, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) announced the introduction of his first piece of legislation, the Job Creation Act of 2011.  The Job Creation Act of 2011 would provide needed tax and regulatory relief to the private sector to help create new jobs and provide greater certainty for our economy at a time when it is badly needed.

“Over the past two years, I have traveled to every one of Ohio’s 88 counties and visited over 100 factories, farms and other businesses to get input on how to bring jobs back to Ohio.  I received a lot of good ideas from small business owners, workers, and economic development groups.  The result was the Portman Plan for Jobs and this legislation, the Job Creation Act of 2011,” said Senator Portman.

“We need to focus on pro-growth policies, like those included in the Job Creation Act, in order to create an environment that fosters job growth and gets Americans back to work.  If passed, this legislation will create over 1.4 million jobs, provide nearly $240 billion in tax relief, reduce the deficit by $85 billion and eliminate some of the most burdensome mandates on job creators,” continued Portman.

Over the past two years, Washington has been making it harder, not easier, for companies of all sizes to create jobs.  The Job Creation Act of 2011 is a significant step in the other direction which will immediately help companies grow, create jobs and invest in the future.  Economists estimate the payroll tax section of the Job Creation Act alone would create more than 1.4 million jobs.  The legislation would provide nearly $240 billion in tax relief to foster hiring and investment while reducing the deficit by $85 billion and ending job destroying mandates on job creators.

“The Job Creation Act of 2011 is a robust first step towards a pro-job atmosphere here in Washington, and I will continue to remain laser focused on fixing Ohio’s economy and creating an environment conducive to job growth,” stated Portman.
