Statement by Senators McCain, Graham, Rubio & Flake on Senate Leader Harry Reid's Comments on Immigration Reform

You know the border crisis is serious when you have three of the GOP Senate members known for being weak on illegal immigration, Senator McCain, Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Marco Rubio speaking out against it.

But they say nothing about trying to stop President Obama's threat to wield his magic pen and issue an Executive Order Amnesty for the border jumpers illegally entering our country.

And notably missing from the growing chorus of "convenent conservatives" speaking out against Obama's border BS is Ohio's own Senator Rob "I Love Illegals too" Portman.

From Senator John McCain --
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) today issued the following statement on Majority Leader Harry Reid’s comments today regarding legislation to address the humanitarian crisis on the border:

“Last year, we voted to pass immigration reform legislation through the United States Senate. While we continue to support the goals of comprehensive immigration reform, none of us would support – or have ever contemplated – including that bill or the DREAM Act in legislation urgently needed this year to address the current humanitarian crisis on our southern border. It is obvious that Majority Leader Reid’s suggestion that the Senate could include comprehensive immigration reform in its border crisis bill is a blatant attempt to scuttle House Republicans’ good-faith efforts to pass legislation addressing the issue this week.

To be clear: Without our support – which he would not have – it would be impossible for Leader Reid to add comprehensive immigration reform or the DREAM Act to any border crisis bill this week. We encourage our colleagues in the House to move forward and pass legislation focused exclusively on addressing the current humanitarian crisis on the border, and finally test whether Democrats will work constructively with Republicans to solve this humanitarian crisis on our border, or play politics with an issue of urgent national importance.”

Action Alert: Stop President Obama's Border Bailout & Executive Order Amnesty!

This week, the House of Representatives is considering taking action on the President's request for $3.7 billion to deal with the border crisis. We need to urge them to say no to any funding unless they end the President's executive amnesty.

This is simply another case of Washington throwing more money at a problem as an attempt to solve it. Let's face it, as long as the President's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is in effect the influx of illegal immigrants will continue. And with the President's commitment to issue some kind of executive amnesty before November, we must tell Congress to say no!

Senators Ted Cruz (TX) and Jeff Sessions (AL) are leading the effort to stop the President's plans for executive amnesty and we need to give them back up by flooding the phones in Congress this week. Click here to read.

Take Action

Contact Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and tell him to support the efforts of Senator Cruz & Senator Sessions to stop President Obama's plans for Executive Order Amnesty

Sessions Calls On All Colleagues To Block President’s Planned Amnesty & Work Permits

American people will not be mocked. They have begged and pleaded for our nation's immigration law to be enforced for 30 or 40 years… The politicians have refused, refused, refused, refused. The American public defeated amnesty after amnesty after amnesty and they will not sit back and allow the president to implement through unlawful fiat…

In effect, the President is preparing to assume for himself the absolute power to set immigration law in America.  The absolute power to determine who may enter and who may work—not matter what the law says—by the millions… The American people will fight this.  They will resist… So I am calling on all Members of Congress today to stand up to the President’s lawless actions and sponsor legislation to block [these actions].  I am calling on all Members of Congress today to oppose any border supplemental that does not include such language.  I am calling on every person in this body, and in the House, to stand and be counted at this perilous hour.  I am calling on the American people to phone their representative and ask them: where do you stand?

All of us were elected by citizens to serve them and their constitution.  Will we answer that call?  Where will history record you stood at this hour?”

Sheriff from Ohio Sends Bill to Mexican President for Illegal Immigrants in his County Jail: Fed's tell him - "Back Off!"

In the below post Dana Loesch interviewed Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones regarding all the illegals in his county jail.  The crowding of illegals will only get worse, not only in the Butler County jail, but county jails across Ohio if the federal government is allowed to ship the illegal border crossers to our state.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones should be applauded for speaking out and putting the social & fiscal well-being and safety of Butler County residents first.

Also, in asking that the fiscal & social well-being and safety of all Ohio residents be put first, Tea Party & Liberty groups across Ohio have sent a letter to Governor Kasich asking him to resist & refuse any federal relocation attempts of illegal immigrants in our state.

An Ohio Citizens Petition asking Governor Kasich to resist & refuse
any federal relocation attempts of illegal immigrants in our state is also being circulated. Click here to sign the Ohio Citizens Petition.

From The Blaze --

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said Friday that he sent a letter to Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, charging him for all the illegals in his jail.

What happened next? The Ohio sheriff told Dana Loesch: “The federal government sends me a letter and said I violated a treaty of like, 1790.”

When Loesch asked for more information, Jones continued: “I sent him a bill for the prisoners that are in my jail. They came here illegally. I’ve not gotten any money from them, but I billed them so much. And I’ll tell you what I got in return: my life was threatened.”

Jones said he got a call from the FBI saying there were three sheriffs in the country that were going to be killed by the drug cartels, and he was one of the three.

Jones has also written a letter to President Barack Obama, “asking and pleading with him not to bring these people here to the state of Ohio, and to secure our borders.”

“We’ve had horrendous crimes here in this community,” Jones said. “We had a senior citizen, an elderly lady, molested by a teenager that came over from Mexico. We had another one molested — an eight year old girl. We’ve had drugs pouring in, more so than before the government said the borders were sealed. And we’re being run over by the drug dealers coming to this community. The violence has increased, and we’re a long way from the borders.”

Jones said his county spends eight to ten million dollars each month on welfare programs, which he called “free stuff,” and said that’s “some of the reason that they come here.”

“It’s a terrible, terrible tragedy,” Jones said. “People’s lives are being threatened. It’s in the state of Ohio, for crying out loud. We’re not in Arizona; we’re not in California.”

Jones said the administration is making it “too easy” for those wishing to harm America to cross into the United States.

“They’re going to walk in with backpacks. They’re going to put some dirty bombs together, [and] they’re going to do something really terrible. It’s too easy,” Jones said. “We don’t know who they are. They don’t have vaccinations. Our jails are full. They hit and run. It’s totally out of control, and it’s gotten worse just in the past twelve months.”

Senator Ted Cruz: Need to Stop Obama's Amnesty and Give Governors Options to Mitigate Illegals

INTRODUCES PROTECT CHILDREN AND FAMILIES THROUGH THE RULE OF LAW ACT

July 24, 2014 (202) 228-7561

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today introduced the Protect Children and Families Through the Rule of Law Act, which includes measures that would stop President Obama’s amnesty, reform the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Act, and empower governors to utilize the National Guard to address this specific crisis at federal expense, including authority to arrest violators of federal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorism laws.

“The current situation in the Rio Grande Valley is a humanitarian crisis of this Administration’s making. President Obama set the stage for this crisis by refusing to live up to his most basic responsibility to secure our border, imposing huge human and financial costs on border communities and on immigrants who come here illegally,” Sen. Cruz said. “He has also sent a message to the world that the United States is not serious about enforcing its immigration laws by lawlessly granting amnesty through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program. To solve this problem, we must put a stop to President Obama’s amnesty and give governors all options possible to mitigate this crisis in light of the federal government’s inaction.”

Sen. Cruz’s bill would specifically:
  • Prevent the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) by preventing any taxpayer funds from being used to consider or adjudicate any new or previously denied application under DACA or a similar successor program.
  • The facts demonstrate that DACA is a significant motivating factor for the number of Central American children being handed over to violent criminals and taking the dangerous journey to enter the United States illegally.
  • Yet, President Obama has announced his intention to expand DACA and grant amnesty to even more immigrants who entered the country illegally. In recent months, he has asked DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Eric Holder to provide him with justifications for more executive actions, and he has promised pro-illegal immigration groups that he will expand DACA to cover 5 to 6 million more immigrants who entered the country illegally.
  • Reform the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act so that unaccompanied minors can be expeditiously united with their families back home.
  • Under current law, unaccompanied minors are being released to purported relatives with just a promise to appear later for deportation proceedings. Often they do not appear and, if they do, the removal proceedings can delay reunion to their family back home by years.
  • This bill would protect the safety of these children and ensure their attendance at a new, expedited hearing within seven days of the child’s processing. This expedited process is designed to protect against human trafficking, preserve due process for those who have a legitimate claim to asylum or other relief, and facilitate expeditious return of those children who are ineligible to stay to their families in the country of origin.
  • Take steps to ensure that State and local officials have the resources necessary to protect the people in their communities, enabling them to act on their own to secure the border.
  • This bill would empower governors to utilize the National Guard at federal expense to address the current deluge of unaccompanied minors until the number of such arrivals return to pre-crisis levels.
  • It would also provide the National Guard with authority to arrest violators of federal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and terrorism laws.

Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Sunny Simon say's "Who Cares how County Spending will Impact Residents' Lives"

When pushing for her proposed country-wide 5 cents per bag plastic bag tax in 2012, County Councilwoman Sunny Simon is on the record as stating she "wants to see how far she can go to impact residents' lives."

But as you see below when it comes to accountability, transparency or being a good steward of your tax dollars - with almost an air of indifference, Simon pretty much says, "she doesn't care how far county agencies spending of tax dollars will impact residents' lives."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT:
John J. Currid (216) 502-0914

WEBSITE:

South Euclid, July 21, 2014 - Cuyahoga County Council nominee John J. Currid praised the Cuyahoga County Council for taking a bipartisan step last week to control county spending by passing Cuyahoga County Ordinance 2014-0013.

The ordinance utilizes a common-sense approach to budget oversight by requiring County agencies to provide a detailed request for additional appropriation, itemize their service and program budgets, establish formal budget milestones and timelines, and document proposed staffing levels for all new programs and services for all internally requested taxpayer funds.

Prior to the passage of this Ordinance the County Executive and other County departments could spend taxpayers’ funds without Council’s oversight. This law was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support although it was not was not passed unanimously. According to Currid: “Councilwomen Sunny Simon once again showed indifference to protecting the taxpayers of Cuyahoga County. She was the only member of Council to vote against Ordinance 2014-0013. Ms. Simon’s initial comments on the ordinance were unsuitably brief: ‘I am going to be voting ‘no’ on this piece of legislation.’ She did not articulate any reason for being against such clearly-needed legislation that was ultimately supported by every other member of Council.”

Under questioning, Ms. Simon later suggested the ordinance was unnecessary, saying she and her colleagues already had the power and oversight to request this information without the need of additional legislation. However, Councilman Dave Greenspan, one of the co-sponsors of the ordinance, provided examples of approximately $30 million in spending by the Executive in which Council’s request for additional information were ignored by the Executive. This money was spent by the administration without the oversight of Council, and under Ms. Simon’s watch.

Currid concluded: “It is clear that Ms. Simon does not have the taxpayer’s best interests in mind. This ordinance requires that Cuyahoga County offices utilize basic accounting and budgetary tools, instruments that are learned in 101-level accounting classes. One must ask what Ms. Simon’s motivation would have been to vote against this ordinance, especially when all ten of her colleagues voted in favor.”

Why can't Ohio get rid of Common Core?

Art credit: fotosearch.com

A little over a month ago, Oklahoma got rid of Common Core. But legislation to get rid of Common Core in Ohio continues to languish in the statehouse. Why? Here’s a clue from July 16 in the Columbus Dispatch about Gov. Kasich, from a paragraph buried toward the end of the article:
Kasich spoke [on July 15] to more than 200 members of the Ashland Area, Bucyrus Area, Clear Fork Valley, Galion-Crestline and Richland Area chambers of commerce at Deer Ridge Golf Club south of Mansfield.
. . .
The governor also defended the Common Core, saying while the plan sets overall goals for educational achievement, local school boards must approve the curriculum to achieve those objectives. Common Core is a set of common standards for math and English/language arts.
Goals and common standards? Here is a stinging analysis of the “common standards” from Bruce Deitrick Price at American Thinker:

“Drop a precision part so it would deform a tiny bit and malfunction down the line.”  That’s practically an epitaph for the destructive results achieved by our elite educators throughout the 20th century.
Great cunning was displayed in educational sabotage.  Typically, there is an optimal sequence in learning something, no matter if it's tennis, driving a car, typing, speaking French, or American history.  Disrupt that ideal sequence, teach things in a confusing way, and you will have poor results.
Consider reading.  The ideal sequence is that the child memorizes the alphabet, learns the sounds represented by each letter, and then learns to blend those sounds.  At that point, the child is reading.  This extraordinary skill was once routinely mastered in the first grade.  That was before saboteurs got to work.
The essence of their technique was to hide the alphabet and the sounds.  The child was kept busy doing the worst possible thing: memorizing words as diagrams.  This is a slow task, and hopeless.  English has several hundred thousand words, and many are remarkably similar: life, light, flight, lite, lifer, lit, fife, fifth, fight, fright.  Also, consider Dolch lists for the fifth or sixth grade.  The student is still illiterate at the age of 11 or 12.  Clearly, that was the plan.
In arithmetic, the sabotage technique was equally obvious.  Again, the Education Establishment used relentless praise of a lie – in this case, that children would learn math more quickly if, at the elementary level, they studied a mix of easy and advanced concepts.  This makes as much sense as taking novice skiers up on the black-diamond slopes...which would make perfect sense if you were trying to kill kids.
New Math came along in the 1960s, and children were expected to learn matrices, statistics, Boolean algebra, set theory, base-8.  Stuff that was once taught in college now had to be taught in the second grade.  Only a saboteur would say so.  Twenty years later, Reform Math used similar gimmicks.  Children today are still bedeviled by weird and unnecessary complexities, now often ridiculed as Common Core Math.
In the teaching of general knowledge, our saboteurs were particularly ingenious.  They created what military people call interlocking fire.  Nothing survives.
Multiculturalism says don’t bother learning anything about your own culture.  Relevance says don’t bother learning anything about faraway cultures.  Self-esteem says don’t teach anything that some children won't be able to handle.  No Memorization says don’t ask a child to remember anything.  In case any little wisp of knowledge might still get through, Constructivism says that teachers should not teach.  In a sick way, all of this is genius.  From K to 12, schools have an array of reasons why they need not bother teaching.
Read the rest here.
