Chief Wahoo on unemployment

To follow up on yesterday's news announcing the Cleveland Guardians, here's the Babylon Bee with another good one:

Unemployment Up 800% Among Ethnic Mascots

And from Paula Bolyard at PJ Media:

RIP Cleveland Indians:
Brave New Name Will Honor Traffic Pillars
on a Crumbling Bridge

. . . The name change depresses me. I’m sad that my grandkids will never know the joy of cheering for the Cleveland Indians—like their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents before them. If they even bother to watch the team, they’ll be cheering for a stupid traffic pillar. I feel the same way I did when Art Modell up and moved the Cleveland Brown to Baltimore in 1995, leaving fans with an empty stadium and the rights to the name. A part of our collective history died that day and the team has never really recovered. “The Move” joined a long and storied line of disappointments for Cleveland fans (there’s an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to the topic). But it’s more than just the Indians’ name change. Our history is being erased by a small minority of noisy activists, statue by statue, logo by logo, name by name. They’re using 1984 as an instruction manual to shove our entire history down the Memory Hole. Meanwhile, their fellow travelers are inundating our schools with fake history, heavy on social manipulation and light on education.

I refuse to accept the premise that I’m a racist because I love the Cleveland Indians—the name, the logo, and Chief Wahoo. I’m sick and tired of having my motives called into question at every turn because of my skin color. I will never EVER cheer for the Cleveland Guardians. Instead, I’ll join the many loyal Tribe fans who will no doubt continue to cheer for the Indians. And we’ll wear our black-market Wahoo gear proudly, celebrating the history of the team and the bravery of our Native American brothers and sisters.

I grew up with the Cleveland Indians, and when I read the change to “Guardians” – I made no connection between that name and these “guardians on the Hope Memorial bridge.  No, it's just another politically correct decision that will sadden and irritate the fans.

Out: Indians. In: Guardians.

Out: Indians.  In: Guardians.

That's the Twitchy announcement.  The Cleveland Guardians.   Synonyms:  Protectors, Godparents, Custodians, Caretakers, Keepers, Wardens, Guards, Sentinels.  Such fun words for nicknames and mascots, huh?   Say goodbye to the Tribe and Chief Wahoo.

Doctors on vaccines & COVID-19

Tired of the seemingly endless headlines on COVID and the vaccines?  They are not going away anytime soon.  In the current issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, Marilyn M. Singleton, M.D., J.D. provides an overview of why she is skeptical:

COVID-19: A Weapon to Fundamentally Transform America

An old Russian operating room joke says: Did you know that in Russia tonsillectomies are done transrectally? No, why? People are afraid to open their mouths!

Sadly, this joke could be describing the new America. What has happened? Why have we collectively lost our minds? And what has COVID-19 got to do with it? While Americans have been asleep at the wheel, the power brokers were manipulating us into constant societal unrest, with dwindling individual liberties and growing dependency on the government and big corporations. COVID-19 has been a handy justification for left-leaning politicians to promote and solidify their ideology. What many Americans were led to believe was well-intentioned concern for our safety and health has turned into a morass of ever-changing rules designed not for our health, but to accustom us to government control of our lives.

The collectivist political philosophy that has been simmering in America for years may be coming to fruition. We will recover from the COVID-19 disease, but will we recover from the attendant malignant policy changes?

. . .

The full article is here.  It is quite long but worth the time.  In a related story, Allan Stein at the Epoch Times reports:

An internet survey by a non-partisan physicians’ association found that most respondents have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or plan to get the shot.

In the June 16 online survey by the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) in Tuscon, Arizona, nearly 60 percent of over 700 both retired and practicing physicians said they were not fully vaccinated and would decline the shots based on their assessment of risk.

“This contrasts with the claim by the American Medical Association that 96 percent of practicing physicians are fully vaccinated. This was based on 300 respondents,” the AAPS stated in a press release.

While neither survey represents a random sample of all U.S. physicians, the AAPS survey shows that doctor support for the mass injection campaign “is far from unanimous.”

“It is wrong to call a person who declines a shot an ‘anti-vaxxer,’” AAPS Executive Director Jane Orient said in a statement. “Virtually no physicians are ‘anti-antibiotics’ or ‘anti-surgery,’ whereas all are opposed to treatments that they think are unnecessary, more likely to cause harm than to benefit an individual patient, or inadequately tested.”

The survey also showed that 58 percent of the practicing physicians who responded were aware of patients suffering a “significant adverse reaction” after receiving a COVID vaccine.

Orient said most unvaccinated physicians had made their decision based on their assessment that the risk of taking the shots exceeds the risk of the disease, with many responding that they had already contracted COVID-19.

Other reasons for declining the shots included unknown long-term side effects, use of fetal cell lines for vaccine testing, the experimental nature of the injections, other effective early treatments, and reports of deaths and blood clots.

The NFL is destroying itself

Derek Hunter at Townhall has thoughts:

The NFL is a private business and they’re free to commit economic suicide any time and any way they so choose, I couldn’t care less from that standpoint. But the idea that any organization that wants my support, and more to the point my money and time, would embrace the idea that there is such a thing as a “black national anthem” and expect me to be cool with it, shows I’ve probably waited too long to walk away.

. . .

Now the league that prided itself on integrating years before baseball is embracing the segregation it rejected in the past. They’ll now play the national anthem and the “black national anthem” before each game, as well as badger fans with left-wing political messages of victimhood and division. I don’t think there’s a big audience for pampered athletes lecturing their audience about how awful the country, and by extension they are, while those athletes make more for 3 hours of work on a Sunday than the people watching on TV do in a year. Maybe I’m wrong, but last year’s ratings collapse suggests otherwise.

The NFL doesn’t care all that much because a large percentage of their revenue is through corporate sponsorship.

The full article is here.  We all know die-hard football fans; heck, some conservatives are die-hard football fans.  But if you are passionate about the sport, how do you reconcile that with a passion for the American National Anthem?
