America’s Sheriff David Clarke

During the 2016 GOP convention in Cleveland, this blogger & hubby were sitting at the bar in a neighborhood restaurant, and through the door came a man wearing a cowboy hat.  In the profile, we could have sworn it was America’s Sheriff, David Clarke.  As he came inside, well, it WAS David Clarke.  I stood up to intercept him on his way to a barstool and asked if I might shake his hand.  An innocent bystander offered to take a photograph.  What a privilege.

So yesterday evening, we were in another neighborhood restaurant, and there was a gentleman at the bar having a drink.  He was wearing a cowboy hat and was a dead ringer for David Clarke.  Then I noticed an American flag and a “Blue Lives Matter” patch on his vest.  So when he glanced in our direction, I gave him a thumbs-up.

He paid his check and then headed over to our table.  And indeed, it WAS America’s Sheriff.  We had a most excellent conversation, and we were able to shake his hand again.  He is in town filming.  And having a friendly visit with him was a real shot in the arm.  Check out his website here.

Here comes the American truckers' People's Convoy UPDATED

Image via Bizpacreview

Terresa Monroe-Hamilton reports at BizPacReview:

As an American “People’s Convoy” takes shape following in the footsteps of Canadian truckers, a political action committee has partnered with truck convoys across the nation to travel to Washington, DC in protest of COVID mandates and overreach by the federal government.

The Great American Patriot Project sent out an email blast on Wednesday urging supporters to join, volunteer for, or donate to the American Truckers Freedom Fund. The email asserts the truckers “represent a movement of peaceful, non-violent Americans from all walks of life who are dissatisfied with the unscientific, unconstitutional government overreach in regards to mandates.”

“It’s time for #AmericanTruckers to stand with truckers all over the world. Don’t be afraid to #HonkHonk. Everybody loves #FreedomHonks,” the PAC proclaims on its website.

The “People’s Convoy” is gaining steam along with other movements and thousands, if not millions, of Americans are supporting them in one form or another. Routes for the convoy include starting points in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, and Fresno, California. The trek will culminate on March 6 in Washington, D.C. A congressional welcome committee is set to meet with the convoy and discuss policy changes according to the organizers.

. . .

The “People’s Convoy” is set to depart in late February and travel to the nation’s Capitol. . .

Great to see that Cleveland is on the route, so northern Ohio patriots can cheer on our truckers.  Will post details ASAP.  Full Bizpac article is here.

Get ready for more riots

CNN's "Baghdad Bob" moment

The Kyle Rittenhouse trial is almost concluded.  Perhaps the judge will dismiss the case with prejudice.  Perhaps the jury will be able to withstand doxxing and other pressures to convict.  JD Rucker at NOQ predicts that the jury will acquit.  If the verdict is anything other than a conviction, JD Rucker is sounding the alarm:

Leftists, Media, and Big Tech Are Colluding
to Burn Down Cities After Kyle Rittenhouse is Acquitted

This isn't the case of a common narrative being circulated. This is collusion that is so blatant, lawsuits need to be filed.

When Kyle Rittenhouse is acquitted, many cities will likely experience what we saw last year following the release of the George Floyd video. It may even be worse this time if the powers-that-be get their way. But unlike the BLM and Antifa riots that sprung up after the Floyd video, the riots that will come with Rittenhouse’s acquittal have had months of planning and coordination.

At the heart of the conspiracy are mainstream media and Big Tech. They’re doing their part to make sure there’s as much carnage as possible. Let me break it down briefly before getting into more details.

The tag-team efforts of mainstream and social media are crystal clear. We have the CNNs, MSNBCs, and network news outlets all spreading coordinated lies about the trial. They are painting Rittenhouse as a murderer; CBS News literally called him that while the trial was still going which is a blatant obliteration of any remnant of journalistic standards they may have once had. They are attacking the judge. They are attacking the defense team. They’re even attacking the prosecutors to create a scapegoat for why this “murderer” was set free.

Meanwhile, Big Tech is suppressing the truth. Free Beacon reported that social media companies are suppressing claims that Rittenhouse is innocent. While mainstream media spread the lies, Big Tech suppresses the truth. It’s a one-two punch designed to make the people unaware that the trial was a mockery and clearly demonstrated Rittenhouse as acting in self-defense.

. . .

One would think that law enforcement will be prepared for the riots that are coming. Some will be. Others will not. We will likely see Democrat-run cities burning while Republican-run cities are able to contain most of the domestic terrorism that is coming. It isn’t just inefficiency or ineptitude in leftist cities. It’s also the greatly depleted police forces that are already allowing criminals to rule in Seattle, Portland, New York City, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and similar cities across the country.

When Rittenhouse is acquitted, those cities will almost certainly be overrun with violence and property destruction. This is by design. It has many benefits for the powers-that-be who want to see America torn down, replaced by an ugly “utopia” under the Neo-Marxist tenets of The Great Reset.

Law enforcement has been warned. Will they act accordingly?

Mr. Rucker’s full article is here.

I don’t agree with every assumption in Mr. Rucker report (e.g., I don’t agree that officer Derek Chauvin should have been fired after George Floyd died while in police custody;  body cam transcripts and the medical examiner’s report incl. the toxicology report, demonstrate that Chauvin was following protocols and that Floyd died of a drug-induced heart attack).

However, the main point – that if Mr. Rittenhouse is NOT convicted, there will be blood in the streets -- is why I’m linking to the report.  And downtown Cleveland was on the target list in May 2020.

Military transports at Burke Lakefront

One of our friends has a bird’s eye view of Burke Lakefront Airport.  Over the past week, he has observed large military transports coming into land.  Hmmm.  Shortly after the August 15 Afghanistan catastrophe, former Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman, now president of Global Cleveland, announced that (via Cleveland 19):

“You’re welcome here in our city.” “That’s the message non-profit Global Cleveland is sending to Afghan refugees during this crisis.”

Here’s an update from Cameron Fields at msn news from late August:

Afghan refugees are beginning to arrive in Cleveland after landing in the U.S., and those involved in the effort said they are working as quickly as possible to bring more to America.

More than 30 refugees have already arrived in Cleveland from Afghanistan, and more are expected soon, Global Cleveland president Joe Cimperman said. Cimperman said he believes the city is ready to welcome and support them.

Last month, the New York Post reported

There’s a reason the Biden administration is using secret flights to small airports to move unaccompanied minors who illegally crossed the border.

They don’t want voters to know just how many people are being waved right into the country, because President Biden understands that open borders might be the policy of progressives, but it’s not popular among the majority of Americans.

But you know who does realize these flights are happening? The people of Central and South America. Word travels fast that no one is getting deported, and that’s why they are paying money to smugglers to take their children on a perilous journey north.

. . .

Just guessing . . .

Best and Worst Run Cities

And Cleveland is on the list. Scott Keinhofer at Western Journal has the report:

WalletHub recently released its list of the 150 best-run cities in America. Surveys of this type usually do a better job of creating some publicity for the company sponsoring the survey than they do settling any arguments about what truly is the best or worst of anything.

And while there’s plenty of room for argument as to the statistical methodology WalletHub used to create its survey, there is one finding from this survey that, upon closer inspection, can’t be argued.

Of the 150 cities ranked by WalletHub, 15 of the bottom 16 have something in common: They are run by Democratic mayors.

WalletHub didn’t list the political affiliations of each city’s mayor. In fact, there’s no reference to any specific individuals or  political parties in the survey.

But a quick check of the cities and their respective mayors’ political affiliations paints a pretty harsh reality.

. . .

Of the cities ranked by WalletHub, Washington D.C., ranks dead last, slightly ahead of New York City and Detroit.

Also falling near the bottom of the survey are cities that have been longtime Democrat strongholds such as St. Louis (ranked 136th out of 150), Atlanta (137th), Los Angeles (138th), Chicago (140th), Cleveland (142nd), Oakland (145th), and San Francisco (147th).

Sigh. The full report is here.

Vacancy: Marcia Fudge's former seat

Collin Anderson at Washington Free Beacon reports on the House seat left vacant by Marcia Fudge:

President Joe Biden's decision to appoint former Ohio congresswoman Marcia Fudge to his cabinet has Democrats poised to send another self-described socialist to Congress.

Liberal firebrand Nina Turner holds a sizable polling and fundraising lead in the crowded primary race to succeed Fudge. The former state senator is backed by a who's who of congressional progressives, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), and Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.).

Should Turner maintain her advantage and win the August primary, she would fit right in with the so-called Squad members. The former national co-chair of Sanders's presidential campaign, Turner has pledged to pass the Green New Deal, eliminate private health insurance through a government-run Medicare for All system, cancel student debt, and "completely reimagine" law enforcement—in part by defunding police.

Turner's frontrunner status reflects the growing influence of the Democratic Party's progressive wing. Just months ago, Ocasio-Cortez and company welcomed two new Squad members after Reps. Cori Bush (D., Mo.) and Jamaal Bowman (D., N.Y.) ousted longstanding Democratic incumbents in 2020. Bush and Bowman's freshman class also includes fellow liberal representatives Mondaire Jones (D., N.Y.), Ritchie Torres (D., N.Y.), and Marie Newman (D., Ill.), all of whom replaced veteran party members in January.

Turner's campaign on Tuesday used a Tulchin Research poll to declare the progressive "the favorite to serve as OH-11's next Congressperson." According to the poll, Turner enjoys a 35-point lead over her closest competitor, with 21 percent undecided. Ohio State University political scientist Paul Beck said that while the poll's accuracy is difficult to assess, Turner is the "most visible candidate" and has "emerged as the frontrunner in the campaign."

"My bet would be right now that [Turner is] the person who is going to get the nomination—and win the contest in November," he said.

What will happen to Ohio's cultural icons?

In the ancient days of my youth, I spent many years in the performing arts business.  Cleveland area theaters and other performing venues have been closed for over a year.

When the lockdowns and masks were rammed down our throats, I immediately wondered how the arts communities would survive.  Theater companies, opera companies, orchestras, etc., and non-profit operations such as Playhouse Square always have fund-raising challenges;  they depend on the goodwill and contributions of boards of trustees, and they are always flirting with deficits.  So I was concerned after the lockdowns that one of the principal sources of cultural product for, say, Playhouse Square, was the Broadway theater, and the Broadway theater was at risk.

Broadway has always been the sine qua non of legitimate and musical theater, both essentials in our American culture.  So I was distressed but not entirely surprised to read a gloomy piece at American Thinker last week on the prospects for the Broadway stages.  Here’s Alexander Nussbaum on the subject:

Bye-bye Broadway: A grim prognosis for New York’s theaters

New York City Broadway theaters closed on March 12, 2020. The closure was supposed to be for just one month. Fourteen months later, the theaters are still closed. But now Governor Cuomo has announced New York’s theaters are cleared for reopening, starting September 14. No less than 23 plays are scheduled to open between September and November.

Theaters will be allowed to open at “full capacity,” but with “social distancing,” with “capacity limitations are only governed by the ability of people to socially distance by six feet.” Maybe this makes sense to someone who is “woke,” but it does not make sense to me. Theater seats are not exactly six feet apart. In fact, a problem with Broadway’s theaters when they were open was that, when most of the theaters were built, only a tiny percent of the population was over 6 feet tall or over 250 pounds.

Broadway’s 41 theaters range in capacity from 600 to just under 2,000, but more than 30 [theaters] seat more than 1,000. A play has to be at close to 100% audience capacity to be economically viable. Taking out seats would require drastically raising already pre-Wuhan Virus sky high prices. Cuomo has hinted all theater patrons will require proof of vaccination.

I keep hearing how resilient New York City is and that it will be back. But I think New York City is finished forever as a “world” capital; it is Karachi, Pakistan now – the biggest city and commercial, not political, capital of a populous nation.

I’ll believe the Broadway theater will be back and viable when I see it happen.

Mr. Nussbaum looks at the demographics, the economics including the costs of a night out on the town, household income stats, and especially tourism:

Sixty-five percent of attendees were tourists. The theater thus depends on tourists.

Let’s us add that all together and see how it can not mean anything else but the death of Broadway theater.

How is New York City, with its defunded and demoralized NYPD and rising murder and shooting rate, going to attract tourists? Attacking and killing the few tourists that were still coming, is now in, in this woke BLM city. What is the difference between New York and Mount Everest? Both have no culture, no economy, no restaurants, no police, and are extremely dangerous. But Mount Everest will get tourists.

Whites and the rich have fled the city. With the economy demolished, who is left to afford the Broadway ticket price, which because of fewer seats, will be even higher than the 145 dollars the report quoted? Older people are still afraid to leave the house because of the virus, and many did not survive Cuomo.

Those arts organizations that can survive to re-produce plays, musicals, operas, or music already created might revert to the local community-theater model, no longer dependent on huge grants and contributions from individuals and companies, and no longer committed to union contracts.  Another possible outcome, as we sink further into socialism, will be a dreaded “partnership” between the arts communities and the socialist state.  Under that model, major government and corporate grants may roll in, but at a terrible price:  a professional performance might be great, but it’s more likely to be laced with, or used to advance state propaganda.

On the other hand, maybe Ohio audiences will tear a page from Texas.  Headline from HotAir:

Two weeks ago 73,000 people watched a fight indoors in Texas.
What's happened with COVID since then?

Riots: What is really going on?

Patricia McCarthy at American Thinker has a column titled “Who is recruiting, moving and paying the professional anarcho-rioters?”  Good question.  Here are some of her thoughts:

The death by cop of George Floyd in Minneapolis was grotesque, a clearer example of police brutality that has otherwise rarely been filmed for all to see.  Even if, as has been reported, Floyd did not die of asphyxiation or strangulation as it appeared, his death was without a doubt caused by that officer’s cruel and unnecessary action and the inaction of his fellow officers who stood by and watched.

Yet that does not begin to explain the rioting. McCarthy continues:

Is it really the citizens of Minneapolis [and other cities, including Cleveland] who have set the city on fire, burning down small businesses as well as the police precinct building, libraries, etc.?  Who are those masked men in black with secret-service quality ear-pieces, military grade gas masks and backpacks full of Molotov cocktails?  They are very likely professional rioters, recruited, transported and paid by the likes of some George Soros front group or other anonymous Cloward-Piven devotees who share Soros’ hatred of America and want to see this nation bought to its knees.  Panic over the virus was waning. These orchestrated riots across the country are the next ploy.  Someone is organizing this madness.  Someone is supplying the most lethal rioters with all the accoutrements of conflagration and moving them into place to all the affected cities.  That all costs a great deal of money.  Antifa owes its funding to Soros as do the more violent branches of Black Lives Matter.  These players seem strangely secure that they will not be arrested or that if they are, they will be quickly released.
. . .
What is happening all over America these past several nights is not about George Floyd.  The rioters are using his death to embark on rampages, to loot small and large businesses alike.   These are not protests.  What we are seeing is mass thievery under color of protest.  Chances are if the looters in Los Angeles were asked “who was George Floyd,” they would not have a clue nor would they care.
. . .
No matter how much the media loves to fan the flames, indicting America as a racist nation and blaming Trump for every single thing they can, these riots have nothing to do with race beyond it being a convenient excuse for criminal behavior.  Those rioting, setting things on fire, smashing store windows and looting businesses are black, white, and Hispanic; they are a conglomeration of races, but are all thugs without a shred of decency.

No rallies this evening

Yesterday, I blogged about Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA), who complained that President Donald Trump was putting “his most ardent supporters at risk” by not canceling his upcoming political rallies in light of the current coronavirus outbreak. No mention of Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders cancelling their campaign rallies.  But both of them just did. Breitbart reports:

Bernie Sanders Cancels Cleveland Rally Over Coronavirus Concerns

And over at cleveland.com:

A rally by Sanders’ rival, former Vice President Joe Biden, also scheduled for Tuesday night in Cleveland, was also called off.

Is the Coronavirus the reason?  If so, will future rallies also be cancelled?
