Radical Green New Deal predictions

Jack Hellner at American Thinker debunks some “global warming” myths:

Here are some of the destructive policies of the radical greenies that are based on predictions, not scientific data:

The destruction of energy-producing companies that produce reasonably priced energy.  (They clearly don't care about the harm to the poor and middle class by high inflation.)

The promotion of the highly flammable pollutant lithium while seeking to control CO2, a non-pollutant clear gas that makes plants grow and allows the world to be fed.

Spending trillions on carbon capture.

Selling worthless carbon credits so people like John Kerry can pretend they care as they fly in their private jets.

Outlawing gas stoves, furnaces, lawnmowers, leaf-blowers, and gas grills.

The destruction of fishing and killing of whales by wind farms.

Wind & solar renewables: pointless

Bryan Leyland at The Telegraph UK explains why renewable energy sources (wind and solar) are never going to achieve "net zero".  I missed this column when it appeared a few weeks ago, but it's still current.  And it's still a pipe dream:

Many governments in the Western world have committed to “net zero” emissions of carbon in the near future. The US and UK both say they will deliver by 2050. It's widely believed that wind and solar power can achieve this. This belief has led the US and British governments, among others, to promote and heavily subsidise wind and solar.

These plans have a single, fatal flaw: they are reliant on the pipe-dream that there is some affordable way to store surplus electricity at scale.

In the real world a wind farm’s output often drops below 10 per cent of its rated “capacity” for days at a time. Solar power disappears completely every night and drops by 50 per cent or more during cloudy days. “Capacity” being a largely meaningless figure for a wind or solar plant, about 3000 megawatts (MW) of wind and solar capacity is needed to replace a 1000 MW conventional power station in terms of energy over time: and in fact, as we shall see, the conventional power station or something very like it will still be needed frequently once the wind and solar are online.

The governments of countries with a considerable amount of wind and solar generation have developed an expectation that they can simply continue to build more until net zero is achieved. The reality is that many of them have kept the lights on only by using existing fossil fired stations as backup for periods of low wind and sun. This brings with it a new operating regime where stations that were designed to operate continuously have to follow unpredictable fluctuations in wind and solar power. As a result operating and maintenance costs have increased and many stations have had to be shut down.

In fact it's already common to see efficient combined-cycle gas turbines replaced by open-cycle ones because they can be throttled up and down easily to back up the rapidly changing output of wind and solar farms. But open-cycle gas turbines burn about twice as much gas as combined cycle gas turbines. Switching to high-emissions machinery as part of an effort to reduce emissions is, frankly, madness!

Much more at the link here.  But try sharing any of these facts with a green zealot.  It may be that only after unimaginable damage and suffering resulting from reducing access to energy that the greenies will wake up.  Maybe not even then . . .

They’re coming for your lawn mower

Matt Vespa at Townhall reports:

The war on gas stoves is real, and we have emerged victorious for now. The left knows they can’t bum-rush this insane policy initiative to ban these kitchen appliances nationally, so they rolled it out slowly in California. The courts blocked it, paving the way for legal challenges to strike down similar attempts to ban gas stoves nationwide. But that doesn’t mean the environmental left has given up; their end game is to ban the internal combustion engine. So, they’re moving onto other devices.

While liberals tried to destroy our kitchens, they’ve now moved on to leaf blowers. No, I’m not kidding. Leaf blowers and lawnmowers could be the next items on the hit list to save Mother Earth.  . . .

And all this is hypocritical:

Another aspect of these new local ordinances against efficiency is that they’ve grandfathered in those who already own gas-powered lawnmowers and landscaping equipment, so spare us the saving the planet nonsense. What’s the point? It’s about control and the left being nuisances and busybodies about what we do in our homes. . .

The Coming Crash of the Climate Cult

cartoon credit: saltbushclub [click to embiggen]

And it is a cult.  Viv Forbes “started his life with candles, kerosene lights, and a wood-burning stove.  His parents milked cows and harvested corn by hand.”  Over time, as energy sources improved, the result was a dramatic increase in the farm's surplus of food."  Now Mr Forbes has a prediction at American Thinker about the future of the Green New Deal:

. . . But what keeps trains, elevators, hospitals, and refrigerators going if we have a still night followed by another cloudy day?  More batteries or Snowy 9 Pumped Hydro?  And if the still cloudy weather continues, what will recharge the Big Batteries and re-pump the hydros?  And will Greens apply the same conservation standards and delaying tactics to wind, solar, hydro, and power line construction that they now apply to coal mines?

. . .

Soon after the last coal power plant is demolished, in a snap of still, cold, cloudy weather, the lights will go out, electric trains will stop, and battery-powered food deliveries to the cities will falter.  There will be uproar in Parliaments, and all Green/Teal/ALP governments will fall.  The media will blame "climate change."

Energy Realists will take over.  They will immediately place orders for dozens of modular nuclear power plants.

But this energy reality will come too late.  Long lines of city-dwellers with bicycles, wheelbarrows and old diesel utes [utility vehicles] will flee from the hungry cities.

New World Order: Conrad Black’s perspective

Klaus Schwab is is the head of the World Economic Forum (WEF). He is famous for saying that "You Will Own Nothing and You'll Be Happy."

Conrad Black has participated in WEF sessions, so he knows whereof he speaks.  His column at The Burning Platform offers this:

As one who attended for 20 years — and, following the controversial death of Bob Maxwell, was co-leader (with the late Lord Rothermere) of the WEF media group — I found the sessions interesting and informative, and sometimes even entertaining. (On one occasion, I was speaking with the doyen of conferenciers, Henry Kissinger; when someone approached, Kissinger said, “Here comes that goddamn Indian.” I remarked that he was quoting General Custer; the networker turned out to be the prime minister of India.) Klaus Schwab thought the leaders of the international organizations he featured at Davos — the European Union, the World Bank, the United Nations, World Court, World Trade Organization and all their affiliated agencies — should play an increasingly important role to implement his vision of universal supranationalism.

As the Cold War ended, and the international left presciently clambered aboard the accelerating bandwagon of environmentalism to attack capitalism from a different direction in the name of saving the planet, Schwab became a fully paid up advocate of the most comprehensive version of the virtues of global governance. This evolution rushed back to me these last days as I watched Schwab at the G20 meeting, as part of the Business-20 portion of the summit, with his heavy Teutonic accent that sounds like the Marx brothers imitating Kaiser Wilhelm, advising the world’s 20 most prominent political leaders that the Davos reset of a universal, heavily regulated, post-national, post-religious world of synchronized egalitarian toiling was inevitable and infinitely desirable. For a moment I wondered, in Margaret Thatcher‘s phrase, “Do my ears deceive me?” They did not.

As the editor of a just-published collection of essays titled Against the Great Reset, (Bombardier Books), Michael Walsh points out, “The World Economic Forum (WEF) advocates a complete reimagining of the Western world’s social, economic and moral structures.” This book contains 18 mostly very stimulating essays from such noted authorities as Victor Davis Hanson, Douglas Murray, Roger Kimball, Michael Anton and Walsh himself (including a modest contribution from me). Klaus Schwab has expressed pride that Justin Trudeau, Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney (who converted the Bank of England into a rabid partisan of Britain’s continued membership in the European Union and a crusading promoter of militant environmentalism) are all Davos alumni. And federal Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre has publicly warned against the WEF’s globalist agenda: “Freedom means making our own decisions here at home.”

For Schwab, stakeholder capitalism means the overarching requirements of society as interpreted and enforced by an emergent international class of theoretical regulators that would enforce the interests of everyone in society in the activities of the entire private sector. He calls this the “Fourth Industrial Revolution,” which, he says, is “fusing the physical, digital and biological worlds, impacting all disciplines, economies and industries, and even challenging ideas about what it means to be human.” The 2020 book, “The Great Reset” was inspired by the COVID crisis to present a full frontal exposé of the Davos ambition 50 years after its gestation: “It will steer the market towards fairer outcomes, environmental, social and governance metrics.… To ensure that investments advanced shared goals such as equality and sustainability.… And harness the innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to support the public good, especially by addressing health and social challenges.”

As Victor Davis Hanson points out in his essay, “The viper tongue of totalitarianism is most often bathed in palliatives before it strikes.” As I wrote, the whole concept of the Great Reset is based on the fervent endorsement of “democracy, as long as everyone votes for increased public-sector authority in pursuit of green egalitarianism and the homogenization of all peoples in a conformist world,” under the direction of the Davos claque of world bureaucrats and redistributors.  . . .

Much more at the link here.  This is no wild and crazy conspiracy theory.  It’s happening today.  And recall that among the WEF / Davis alumni are Justin Trudeau, Angela Merkel, Jacinda Ardern, Tony Blair, and closer to home, Huma Abedin, Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark-R), Rep. Dan Crenshaw (TX-R), Brian Deese, National Economic Council, Tulsi Gabbard, Nikki Haley, Bobby Jindal, Adam Kinzinger, Gavin Newsom, Samantha Power, and Rep. Elise Stefanik  (NY-R).

The Thinnest Veneer of Civilization

The great historian Victor Davis Hanson has another must-read:

. . . Civilization alone permits humans to pursue sophisticated scientific research, the arts, and the finer aspects of culture.

So, the great achievement of Western civilization—consensual government, individual freedom, rationalism in partnership with religious belief, free market economics, and constant self-critique and audit—was to liberate people from daily worry over state violence, random crime, famine, and an often-unforgiving nature.

But so often the resulting leisure and affluence instead deluded arrogant Western societies into thinking that modern man no longer needed to worry about the fruits of civilization he took to be his elemental birthright.

As a result, the once prosperous Greek city-state, Roman Empire, Renaissance republics, and European democracies of the 1930s imploded—as civilization went headlong in reverse.

We in the modern Western world are now facing just such a crisis.

. . .

He concludes:

As we suffer self-inflicted mass looting, random street violence, hyperinflation, a nonexistent border, unaffordable fuel, and a collapsing military, Americans will come to appreciate just how thin is the veneer of their civilization.

When stripped away, we are relearning that what lies just beneath is utterly terrifying.

Mark Steyn: fingerprinting and other fun topics

Mark Steyn (at SteynOnline) has thoughts about fingerprinting and other fun topics:

The southern border of the United States is wide open to millions of persons per year, equivalent to the entire population of Northern New England annually, for those of you excited about abolishing the electoral college and having a straight up-or-down vote for president.

However, if you like selective application of the law, you'll be thrilled to hear that in recent days two foreign visitors headed to Steyn HQ to tape a couple of interviews were both fingerprinted by the crazed fanatics of US Immigration.

Fingerprinting is something you do to criminals. My guests were traveling for business on passports of two prosperous western nations that happen to be, both formally and more broadly, "allies" of the United States. But, in the crapped-out Oppositeland that is today's America, the southern border is open 24/7 to human traffickers, drug cartels, child sex-slavers, terrorists, bearers of viruses, and illegal immigrants with no verifiable identity, while respectable travelers without criminal records are treated as low-life scum by the perverts of US officialdom. Neither of my guests enjoyed the experience, and, notwithstanding the efforts of my hospitality to compensate, neither has any desire to set foot in the United States ever again.

I can't say I blame them. It was a condition of my own admission to this once great republic that I not foment the overthrow of the United States government. I have not combed the fine print to see whether I'm permitted to foment the overthrow of individual agencies within it. But we are definitely at the stage where natural-born Americans might usefully show a few signs of inclining to foment. Because this is your problem too. The bifurcation of our society is accelerating: the more the criminal classes are given the run of the land in New York, Portland, [Your City Here], the more the law-abiding are crimped and restrained and micro-regulated into compliance. This will not end well.

~As Neil Oliver and I discussed on a recent Mark Steyn Show, all this is happening because the people who run the world want it to happen. Pre-Covid freedom of movement with respect to international travel is never coming back. You might think, "No big deal, I'm perfectly content where I am" - but the local diner's only open Thursday-to-Sunday now and the general store closes at five because they can't get the staff and the big-box KrappiMart has closed its outdoor garden center because there's no one to man it. As Neil's missus puts it, it's not about going green, it's about going without. Less travel, fewer restaurants, smaller homes poorly heated, less individual-car ownership ...and for those willing to expend huge effort to wiggle through the cracks, more fingerprinting and iris scans and digital ID. . . .

Neil Oliver: the cost of going Green

The transcript and video of Neil Oliver’s latest meditation/monologue are at Conservative Treehouse here.  From Sundance’s intro:

Neil Oliver correctly notes that now is the time to expose it all; expose all of the madness behind the grand plan to weaponize the false framework of climate change in a quest to take control and reduce the lives of people to subservient proles.  Now is the time for all the conspiracy theorists, tin foil hat wearers, Putin apologist, vaccine deniers and those who have been proven correct, to stand boldly amid the crowd of sheeple and defy the next effort.

The Ukraine narrative is a western created false ruse, a justification without merit, simply to inflict more pain and hardship in Europe around the bigger multinational energy program known as Build Back Better.  Now is the time to use the truth of COVID as a reference point and weapon to call it out and ridicule political leaders.  Now is the time to see who stands with the people upon policies of commonsense.  . . .

And here is an extract from the transcript:

Don’t be fooled into thinking this disaster movie is coming to an end. . . .

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again: “It’s never about what they say it’s about.”

. . .

Now that some of the great and the good are changing their tune … now that more and more of the mainstream media are pirouetting like ballerinas and finally contemplating questions some of us have been asking, shouting indeed, on a desperate loop, for months and years, there’s a narrow window of opportunity for getting some other stuff out into the open. And so now seems like the right time to think more of the unthinkable and say more of the unsayable.

. . .

The imminent cold and hunger were made inevitable not by Putin in 2022, but years ago by the adoption of ruinous, ideologically driven nonsense presented as world-saving environmental policies that only denied us any hope of energy independence, the profitable exploitation of all the resources beneath our feet and seas and condemned much of Europe to dependence on Russia.

What we are paying is the cost of going Green, when those polices are not green at all but predicated upon some of the most destructive and toxic practices and technologies ever conceived.

Wind and solar will never provide the energy we need to keep thriving as societies, to grow and flourish. The situation is so insane I find it easiest to conclude we are simply meant to do without. . . .

Read or listen to the entire monologue here.

Dr Joseph Mercola on prepping

Dr Joseph Mercola has advice for new and/or inexperienced preppers.  His column is at America First Report, ed. JD Rucker:

Editor’s Commentary: As a “late prepper,” I have found that the most reliable sources of information on the subject are those who have been doing it for a long time. This is why the minuscule knowledge I personally impart is always based on what I’ve learned from more experienced preppers. I usually stick with what they say, taking advantage of my penchant for doing hundreds of hours of research on single topics as the “skill” I bring to the table.

It was with low expectations that I read the article below by Dr. Joseph Mercola. That’s not due to any lack of respect; on medical issues he’s been one of my go-to resources. But time and again I’ve learned otherwise intelligent people often give amateur “doomsday prepper” advice if they don’t have years of experience. Dr. Mercola turned out to be the exception. He nailed it. I shouldn’t have had a single doubt.

The importance of establishing personal food security for oneself and one’s family cannot be overstated. It needs to happen as quickly as resources allow; food prices aren’t going down any time soon and those who wait may find themselves ill-prepared if/when massive food shortages and/or price inflation hits.  .. .

Get Prepared With Shelf-Stable Food

STORY AT-A-GLANCE

  • It appears we’re in a phase where global systems of food and energy production are being intentionally dismantled in an effort to force into effect what the World Economic Forum (WEF) calls The Great Reset and the Rockefeller Foundation calls Reset the Table
  • Controlling food and shifting us away from a natural diet is an important part of The Great Reset. While the destruction of food production is being justified by the Green Agenda, the real goal is to eliminate naturally-grown foods and replace them with patented foodstuffs, frequently synthetic
  • In addition to restrictions imposed by the Green Agenda, nearly 100 food production facilities in the U.S. alone have also mysteriously burned down since 2021
  • The U.K. has even issued an “urgent warning” that gardening can cause heart disease by exposing you to harmful soil pollutants. So, now they’re trying to convince you that growing your own food is harmful too
  • Prepare for unavoidable food inflation, shortages and famine by stocking up on nutritious shelf-stable foods. A list of suggestions is included

Green New Deal: a dangerous religion

We’ve seen the headlines about the crisis in Sri Lanka, with furious protestors storming the palace in Colombo. The imposition of green policies and regulations that reduced Sri Lanka's agricultural output is a prime example of Green New Deal idiocy.  Or perhaps idiocy is not the best word.  BookwormRoom published another meme the other day on another Green New Deal priority - one that is of consequence in America:

Build Back Better: another misnomer

In an article at American Thinker titled “The Sinister Roots of Build Back Better,” E. Jeffrey Ludwig offers insights and contexts on Biden's campaign slogan.  Mr. Ludwig begins:

President Joe Biden and the puppeteers who control his teleprompter are weakening the country in order to gain more power and restructure the country based on classical Marxism (government ownership of the means of production) as well as woke cultural Marxist lines – destruction of the family, depreciation of male vigor and determination, and demonic sexual perversion throughout all classes and segments of society.

The motto of the interloper now serving in the White House is “Build Back Better” – and the trillions to “build back” is an updated version of the New Deal on steroids.  . . .

And Mr. Ludwig concludes:

The Build Back Better plan superficially appears to be an updated and extravagant Keynesian or New Deal-style spending program, but the endgame is not economic recovery that forever establishes federal government dominance over the states in the socio-political realm. Rather, this BBB is the connection of an enlarged federal government and authority with a depreciation or elimination of U.S. sovereignty in favor of global, communist-style governance. But as if the endgame were not sinister enough, we see this updated Keynesian expansion of expenditures is not a result of economic collapse due to a devastating Depression, as was the justification in the 1930s.

Rather, simultaneously with expanded spending, the goal of the BBB plotters is to weaken the economy and usher in economic and socio-political chaos and mayhem. The southern border hands-off policy is literally facilitating the entrance of millions of unvetted persons. By limiting or eliminating natural gas and oil production in the territorial U.S. under the guise of protecting the environment, the feds incentivize other countries to expand their production of these energy sources. That production, which still means higher energy prices here in the U.S., has an equally negative effect on the world climate as fuel production in our country. But the brooding minds behind BBB want to see inflated prices. They want to see shortages. They want to see racial unrest. They want to see upsurges in crime as new theories of law inform the release of repeat offenders and shorter sentences to destabilize society. The BBB autocrats want to see a society that increasingly identifies as LGBTQ because this radical individualism weakens the social fabric. They want to see Chinese fentanyl imported to kill our citizens who are weak-minded and susceptible to drug use.

Thus, despite its resemblance to the New Deal, the BBB's so-called governance (properly called betrayal) is at the front end linked to global health, green initiatives, and “interdependence” as an excuse for diminishing U.S. sovereignty. Initiation of these policies was not to combat financially depressive conditions but rather designed to undermine the freedoms and economic viability of the U.S. This might be likened to prescribing chemo to a patient who did not have cancer, and then, in order to justify the perverse treatment plan, injecting the patient with cancer cells in order to justify that plan. The goal of the sinister and aberrated “plan” would not be the recovery of the patient and return to normal living, but to place the “cured” individual into custodial care rather than independent living. That is the equivalent of a United States with diminished sovereignty in a world governance system.

Full column is here.  Ugly.

The Great Reset: You will own nothing and be happy

Wes Walker published a piece in Clash Daily providing an overview of what’s in store for everybody under the New World Order.  At the center of his article is Klaus Schwab's World Economic Forum:

Klaus Shwab Has Big Plans For YOUR Future …
Are You Cool With That?

.  . The full title of the book [Klaus] Schwab wrote, by the way, was COVID-19: The Great Reset. It was published on July 9, 2020. What was that line team Obama liked to use about never letting a good crisis go to waste?

Here’s a snippet from the book’s description:

…how COVID-19 disrupted our social and economic systems, and what changes will be needed to create a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable world going forward.

Use the crisis to remake the world in your own image. Yep. That’s very Bond villan-y of you Klaus.

We’re moving to the next phase. This one will not center on the virus, but on climate alarmism.

Klaus wrote another book, this one is called ‘the Great Narrative.’ From the description:

World Economic Forum Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab and his co-author Thierry Malleret today release their new book “The Great Narrative”

“The Great Narrative” encapsulates the Davos Vision, and explores how we can shape a constructive, common narrative for the future

The book is the second instalment in “The Great Reset” series, which has been a global best-seller with over 250,000 copies and over a dozen translations

It’s his goal to change our habits, change our culture, change our very way of life — mainly because he’s a billionaire, and who can stop him?

Related: from the Global Economic Forum, with a message telling us You will own nothing and be happy.

Well, that sounds just peachy, doesn’t it?

Even 10 years ago, it seemed premature to sound the alarm over what was then termed Agenda-21.  Or the Great Reset,  Or the New World Order,  They are all the same thing.  And it’s happening now.  That’s the frightening part.  Full report is here and it includes a video link.

Looking Back at the America We Grew up in

Don Feder at FrontPageMagazine has a sad and nostalgic take on the America us oldies grew up in.  Here’s some of it:

Those of us who were part of the Baby Boom generation, now in our 60s and 70s, no longer recognize the nation in which we grew up. We are strangers in a land that gets stranger by the day.

We believed in the American dream. We worked hard, paid our taxes and obeyed the law —even laws we thought were idiotic.

. . .

Most of us don’t recognize Biden’s America. Patriotism has become passé. Our military is led by men who are social workers and politically correct hacks.

They can’t fight, but they’re great at getting soldiers to use preferred pronouns and combating imaginary racism in the ranks.

Giant corporations have replaced individual enterprise, which – in many cases – has been taxed and regulated out of existence. Government bureaucrats and corporate executives are like the pigs and men at the end of Orwell’s “Animal Farm.”

. . .

Officeholders for life treat us like mentally-challenged children. They snicker at those who pay their exorbitant salaries.

So we limp along into old age, too proud to go on the dole and too stubborn to just give up.

Besides, surrender now would be a betrayal of the America that once was.

Read the whole thing here.

Vacancy: Marcia Fudge's former seat

Collin Anderson at Washington Free Beacon reports on the House seat left vacant by Marcia Fudge:

President Joe Biden's decision to appoint former Ohio congresswoman Marcia Fudge to his cabinet has Democrats poised to send another self-described socialist to Congress.

Liberal firebrand Nina Turner holds a sizable polling and fundraising lead in the crowded primary race to succeed Fudge. The former state senator is backed by a who's who of congressional progressives, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), and Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.).

Should Turner maintain her advantage and win the August primary, she would fit right in with the so-called Squad members. The former national co-chair of Sanders's presidential campaign, Turner has pledged to pass the Green New Deal, eliminate private health insurance through a government-run Medicare for All system, cancel student debt, and "completely reimagine" law enforcement—in part by defunding police.

Turner's frontrunner status reflects the growing influence of the Democratic Party's progressive wing. Just months ago, Ocasio-Cortez and company welcomed two new Squad members after Reps. Cori Bush (D., Mo.) and Jamaal Bowman (D., N.Y.) ousted longstanding Democratic incumbents in 2020. Bush and Bowman's freshman class also includes fellow liberal representatives Mondaire Jones (D., N.Y.), Ritchie Torres (D., N.Y.), and Marie Newman (D., Ill.), all of whom replaced veteran party members in January.

Turner's campaign on Tuesday used a Tulchin Research poll to declare the progressive "the favorite to serve as OH-11's next Congressperson." According to the poll, Turner enjoys a 35-point lead over her closest competitor, with 21 percent undecided. Ohio State University political scientist Paul Beck said that while the poll's accuracy is difficult to assess, Turner is the "most visible candidate" and has "emerged as the frontrunner in the campaign."

"My bet would be right now that [Turner is] the person who is going to get the nomination—and win the contest in November," he said.

Orwellian developments: Big Government tentacles

image credit: New York Daily News

Sundance at Conservative Treehouse has more bad news, this time on emerging restrictions and regulations on domestic air travel – and more . . .

Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg (aka Alfred E Newman), made a rather stunning statement during an Axios interview today.

When discussing domestic travel and transportation as it related to COVID-19, the transportation secretary said: “there is an active conversation within the CDC now” about requiring COVID tests prior to air travel inside the United States.

This ridiculous position was unfortunately one of the issues CTH predicted might happen.

COVID is not a virus inasmuch as it is an opportunity to achieve social-change goals advocated by the far-left.  Remember, one key element within the Green New Deal was to ban airplanes altogether.

The kindergarten class of tree-shouting, algae-cake-eating, everything must be sustainable and stupid, i.e., leftist moonbats, are the ones offering actual policy suggestions.

Much more scary stuff at the link here.

Green New Deal: insane, dangerous, etc.

Patricia McCarthy at American Thinker considers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "A One-Woman EMP":

An electromagnetic pulse attack, essentially a nuclear device exploded at high altitude above America, would knock out power grids, rendering anything electrical or digital non-functional.  Cars, trucks, computers, etc. would be dead (unless still running vehicles from the 1960s).  The country would come to a full stop.  That is exactly what Miss. O-C is prescribing.  She means to send us back to an age her Millennial friends would not recognize.  Most of them would be unable to function, as so many are seriously lacking in the skills older generations grew up taking for granted.  Most young people would have no idea how to repair anything they own if it broke, least of all their cars.  They would be apoplectic if their smartphones were suddenly mute.  If Miss O-C were ever to implement any aspect of her Green New Deal, her very own friends would be reduced to the snowflakes they've been raised to be, helpless.

Another one of my favorite journalists, James Delingpole, puts the Green New Deal, in historical perspective at Breitbart:

Not everyone who believes in man-made climate change is a full on Commie. Some are merely useful idiots. But whatever reason people may have for supporting the scam – greed, stupidity, virtue-signalling, idiot leftist teachers – the net result is the same: bigger government, higher taxes, more regulation, lower standards of living. Exactly like you’d get under communism, in fact.

So color me completely unshocked by the Green New Deal. It looks like a revamped Communist Manifesto because that’s exactly what it is.

If implemented, the size of government would increase to levels never before seen in a Western economy. The state’s control of everything from wage levels to how businesses are run to your personal freedoms would be total. There’s no mention of gulags or political prisoners or secret police but of course those would inevitably follow because how else would the state have a hope of enforcing measures which freedom loving Americans would naturally resist?

Here’s hoping the Green New Deal and its sponsors will all implode. Soon.

Solyndra on steroids: how to stifle competition

Lots of us are laughing at AOC’s idiotic Green New Deal “plan.” Tea Party people want smaller, not bigger government. Mr. Instapundit linked to a timely analysis by Chelsea Follett at Human Progress:

“The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.” Senator Bernie Sanders first said those words in 1974 and has been repeating them ever since. Senator Sanders is not alone in his belief. Three out of four Americans agree with the statement, “Today it’s really true that the rich just get richer while the poor get poorer.”

Senator Sanders is half right: the rich are getting richer. However, his assertion that the poor are becoming poorer is incorrect. The poor are becoming richer as well.

Economist Gary Burtless of the Brookings Institution showed that between 1979 and 2010, the real (inflation-adjusted) after-tax income of the top 1 percent of U.S. income-earners grew by an impressive 202 percent. He also showed that the real after-tax income of the bottom fifth of income-earners grew by 49 percent. All groups made real income gains. While the rich are making gains at a faster pace, both the rich and the poor are in fact becoming richer.

In addition to these measurable real income gains, decreases in prices have given the poor increased purchasing power, helping to raise living standards for the worst off in society. As a result of falling prices such as for groceries and material goods, along with gains in real income, Americans have more income left after basic expenses.

Technology has also become cheaper, improving our lives in unexpected ways. For example, consider the spread of cell phones. There was a time when only the wealthiest Americans could afford one. Today, over 98 percent of Americans have a cellular subscription, and the rise of smart phones has made these devices more useful than ever.

Unfortunately, progress has been uneven. In those areas of the economy where competition is hobbled, such as education, housing, and healthcare, prices continue to increase.
. . .

“Competition is hobbled” whenever the government intrudes. Ms. Follett's full article is here. (And Solyndra is now defunct.)
