Converging on the Capitol for NO Cloture

While we are busy burning up and shutting down the phones, faxes and emails of our targeted Senators some of the Tea Party Patriot groups near D.C. will be paying our Senators another visit --

From the Tea Party Patriots

Harry Reid has introduced the Senate version of the so-called "health care reform" bill. Just like the bill that passed in the House, Reid's version will increase health care costs, kill medical care in America, and explode the deficit.

Harry Reid knows Americans don't want this bill, which is why he has scheduled the cloture vote for 8 PM on Saturday!

It's not too late to kill the bill -- but you must unite right now with your fellow Americans to show each and every Senator the massive opposition to this latest attempt at controlling your health care.

Patriots from across America will meet on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 PM on the East Lawn of the Capitol Building to protest this dangerous bill.

That is across the street from the Cannon House Office Building, along Independence Avenue.

For a map, click here.

If the cloture vote passes, debate will begin on the health care bill, and it will be more difficult than ever to stop the bill from passing. That's why you must take a stand on Saturday!

So if you can make it to Washington, DC tomorrow -- please, come and join your fellow Americans to stop this dangerous takeover of the health care system.

If you can't make it to Washington, you can still help stop this bill! Look below for a list of Senators who are on the fence about Saturday night's vote. Call them RIGHT NOW and firmly, but politely demand they vote "No" on cloture.

Driehaus (OH-1) Defends Health Care Vote

Left hung out to dry by the House Democrats, Rep. Steve Driehaus (OH-1) is out trying to justify his vote in support of the governmnt run health care plan. If passed in the Senate, it is all but assured the Stupak abortion amendment will be removed in committee.

From The Cincinnati Enquirer --
Driehaus said he stood firm against covering abortions under the plan and that he’ll run on the vote that helped seal a 220-215 victory for the Democratic plan.

“I will certainly be talking about health care on the campaign trail,” he said Monday after supporters praised his vote in an appearance at Good Samaritan Hospital.

“I had drawn a line in the sand early on about not spending federal dollars on abortions,” he added. “Look, this is a competitive district. It will remain a competitive district. I think the voters will face a choice. Do they want to go back to where we were or do they want to move forward?”
The poll that accompanied the below article in the Cincy Enquirer had 74% of the people stating they would vote against Driehaus in the next election because of his vote on health care. So it looks like the voters look like they want to move forward -- but without him.

Using Katrina Dollars to pass Health Care Reform in the House

Knowing that his father was a prisoner of the communist North Vietnamese Army (NVA), I am shocked that Rep. Joseph Cao (LA-2) would support a government take over of our health care. But, politicians being politicians.... self-preservation remains their highest character trait.

Again, that Cao became a turncoat for conservatives is shocking, but in hindsight, was he doing this in a way of appeasement to the strong democrat district he serves and as a way to ensure Katrina Dollars kept rolling in at Stupid-Star GOP Governor Bobby Jindal's, also of LA, request?
Press Secretary Robert Gibbs urged Republicans on Wednesday to follow the advice of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who urged party members to start working more constructively with the president in passing health care legislation.

You think that is a stupid, far-fetched conclusion that Katrina dollars bought the health care vote? Then ask yourself this...
"Is it a coincidence that Gov. Bobby Jindal was sucking up to the administration's socialized health care plans, obviously for reasons related to Katrina dollars, and now Cao is the lone Republican to vote for it?"

Keep Up the Pressure; The House is a Rockin'

Good Morning Patriots,

Just a reminder to keep up the pressure with our calls. We can't let up! Late last night we received an email from the Tea Party Patriot National Coordinator Team relaying the request from Bachman that we are needed in DC again ASAP. Understanding that on such short notice and that many of you just returning from DC this may not be feasible.... but we can and must continue the calls, faxes and emails to our targeted House members.

Even if nobody is answering the phones in DC or the District offices of the House members, please leave a message and fill their voice mails until the phones shut down! We are right there and we can do this!

We gave Sen. Harry Reid reason to pause and he is now back tracking on bringing the Senate version of the Health Care bill on the Floor for a vote before the first of the year -- it looks like there is also some apprehension surfacing in the House....

H/T to Wellsy's World --
Speaker Nancy Pelosi had hoped to have a vote on her behemoth health care bill in a rare Saturday vote in what seemed to be a rush to hurry through unpopular legislation before any more issues could be raised about it. Today, however, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer indicated the vote may be delayed until Sunday or early next week. The reason? Democrats don’t have the votes to pass it as opposition to the bill is coming on multiple fronts, from both a fiscal perspective and a concern about federal funding for abortion led by Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak.
One of our Congressmen in OH, Congressman Steve Driehaus, is leaning for supporting Stupak's opposition to abortion funding in the House Bill -- but as you will see below, he is catching flack from the "Free Health Care for Everyone" lefties in OH...

From the Skeptic One Blog
"Ohio Congressman Steve Driehaus is one of several democrats threatening to torpedo health care reform, unless the measure blocks the rights of women to get an abortion. Specifically, he says he will vote against the house health care bill, which is set for a vote tomorrow, if there are no provisions barring the use of federal funds for a woman to exercise her rights to an abortion."

You can read more here...

"Healthcare in this country is not equal when it comes to women....," Read more

How about them apples? The liberals want equality for everyone, except when it is not in line with their agenda! Would or could you expect anything different?!?

The other Congressman from OH wavering on the House Health Care Bill is Blue Dog Democrat, Zack Space. Space has been flip-flopping on the hidden loop holes on Illegal Immigrants in the health bill.

The administration is very concerned about Space's & Rep. Boccieri's House seat in the next election - thus VP Biden's recent Cleveland fund raising event for them. We must remind Space & Boccieri that only people in the 16th & 18th can vote for or AGAINST them -- not Biden.

Reid wavering on Health Care Reform Time Frame

Caught leaving a private meeting with his fellow Democrats, Sen. Harry Reid began backtracking on the Senate passing any health care reform legislation this year....
The Senate Democratic leader indicated Tuesday that lawmakers may not complete health care legislation this year, missing President Barack Obama's deadline on his signature issue and pushing debate into a congressional election year.

Asked if he could pass health care this year, Reid said: "We're not going to be bound by any timelines. We need to do the best job we can for the American people. We want quality legislation, and we're going to do that."

Reid said he was awaiting a final analysis of the legislation from the Congressional Budget office, a time-consuming process that makes it unlikely the Senate would begin debate before Veterans' Day, Nov. 11. With scores of amendments, Senate debate could take weeks. (Yahoo News)

For all the people that think their efforts of making calls and writing letters/faxes are for nothing... you are now seeing the effect they are having --- they are causing indecison within the democrat Senators. This can be considered a small daily victories.

Understand something..... our elected officials are very good at one thing -- staying in power. Self-preservation is one of the strongest character traits a politician has, so much in fact, that most of the time there is no room left for integrity. Making them feel vulnerable is the key in winning this battle. Our letters, faxes, emails, etc... are the tools we use. They may support every single word in the Senate bull, but will not sacrifice their relection and support a government take over of health care.

Reids backtracking on PBO's timetable shows the senate bill is in question. Again, our calls, letters, faxes, emails & visits raises these questions. With our continued pressure, pending the CBO report, we may very well get a standing 8-count for the year.

Make or Break Time with Health Care

Fellow Patriots,

This week is make or break week with the government takeover of health care in the House of Representatives.

It is our understanding that Speaker Pelosi is working to bring the bill to the floor of the House on Friday or Saturday of this week. She would not be setting that as a deadline if she were not fairly confident that she can line up the votes.

Additionally, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is working to line up 60 votes so that the bill may be brought to the Senate Floor. The Senate cannot bring a bill to the floor as easily as the House. In the Senate, the bill must have unanimous consent to be brought to a vote (which this one will not) or there will have to be a motion to proceed. When the motion to proceed is announced, objections will occur. After this Senator Reid will file a cloture motion, which will attempt to stop debate and actually allow vote on his original motion to proceed. For the cloture motion to win, there must be 60 votes.

As you saw last week in our emails, Tea Party Patriots has been working on an Operation House Call program. We had an incredible number of members step up to the plate and they are going to be in DC this week. Then Friday afternoon, we received word that Congresswoman Michele Bachman would be making an announcement on Friday about another House Call program on Thursday. Many of the original TPP Operation House Call Members are going to stay through Thursday.

With all of this in mind, here is this week's Passion to Action Weekly To Do List. Keep pulling from your reserves. Right now, we have to make sure Congress knows that we do not want the government to takeover our health care!

Passion to Action Weekly To Do List

The phone calls, emails, faxes, and protests have been working. While it is hard work, please keep up the effort.

Monday:
  • TPP Members will be traveling to DC.

  • Watch for an email announcement about a new Tea Party Patriots project to come late Monday. This project is going to be powerful and important so be sure to check back for it.

  • Read below about our efforts this week. If you cannot go to DC but you are able to go to your local Congressional District Office on Thursday at 12:00 noon eastern time (especially if you are in or near one of the targeted Congressman's districts), plan and list a protest outside of their office for Thursday at 12:00 noon eastern time. To enter the protest on http://teapartypatriots.org, login, then click My Account from the top right hand corner, then selects Add Event on the right hand sidebar.

  • If you have not written a letter to the targeted Senators and Congressmen, take the time to do so today. It does take time to do this, especially when it is a letter you are writing from your heart rather than copying and pasting text. These individual letters truly make a difference and we encourage you to write one and fax it to us at 678-302-5377. We will hand deliver it for you.
Tuesday:
  • Tea Party Patriots members will begin Operation House Call circulating throughout the Senate Office Buildings beginning at 1:30. They will deliver the faxes you have sent to the targeted Senators. Additionally, they will tell staff members why they are opposed to government takeover of our health care.

  • We need you to back up their efforts by calling all the targeted Senators today. We especially need the phone lines to begin lighting up at 1:30 eastern time and continuing until 6:00. The targeted Senators phone numbers (including local phone numbers) are listed below.

  • If you did not originally plan to attend but have decided you want to make the trip, please email Diana Reimer (philatppatriots@gmail.com) and Debbie Dooley (debbie0040@yahoo.com) so they can get the details to you.
Wednesday:
  • Tea Party Patriots members will continue Operation House Call circulating throughout the House Office Buildings beginning at 10:30 am. They will deliver the faxes you have sent to the targeted House members. Additionally, they will tell staff members why they are opposed to government takeover of our health care.

  • We need you to back up their efforts by calling all the targeted Representatives today. We especially need the phone lines to begin lighting up at 10:30 eastern time and continuing until 6:00. The targeted Representative phone numbers (including local phone numbers) are listed below.
Thursday:
  • Tea Party Patriots members will continue Operation House Call by joining Congressman Michelle Bachman at 12:00 noon eastern time to make additional House Calls on Congress. We have groups that are coordinating caravans and chartered buses in many states including:

  • Delaware: Christy Shirley, delawaretaxteaparty@gmail.com
  • Georgia: Joy McGraw, jlmcgraw@aol.com
  • Illinois: Denise Cattoni, dcattoni@aol.com
  • Louisiana: Rob Gaudet, rob@teapartypatriots.org
  • New York (Central and Syracuse): Joanne Wilder, jwilder4@twcny.rr.com
  • Ohio: Tom Z., Info@PortageCountyTEAParty.com
  • Rhode Island: Ron L'Heureux, Ron@riteaparty.com
  • Texas: Rowlett Tea Party, info@rowlettteaparty.com
  • Virginia, James Spiess, jimspiess@gmail.com

  • If you cannot attend the House Call in DC, then attend the House Call at your local Congressman's Local District Office. These protests will be planned quickly. Be sure to list the protest on our site so others can find out about it. The time for these protests is 12:00 noon eastern/9:00 AM pacific. This way they will correspond with House Call in DC. As you are protesting, send 1 person into the office at a time to tell the staff members how you feel about government takeover of our health care.

  • If you cannot attend in DC or at a local District Office, then call and fax the targeted Congressmen again today. We must continue to keep the pressure on this week.
Friday:
  • The vote is expected to take place on the House Floor on Friday or Saturday. We will do our best to keep you updated about any developments without overwhelming your inbox.

  • Call your Congressman and your 2 Senators to tell them why you do not want government takeover of health care. Call their local offices and the DC offices.

  • Call the local offices and district offices of the targeted Congressmen again today.

Taking the Health Care Fight back to D.C.

Cleveland & Medina Tea Party Patriots

Action Alert

October 31, 2009

Couldn’t go to the 9/12 March?
Then join us in DC on Nov. 5th

It’s the rally cry that is being heard across the nation.

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has challenged patriots to storm Washington on Thursday, November 5th, and to stand with her on the steps of the Capitol. (See
video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8_XcSHHxDk .) The mission is to stop the House from passing the government-run healthcare bill, H.R. 3962. The Tea Party Patriots, 9.12ers and other freedom-loving groups are heeding her call.

We are excited to announce that the Portage County Tea Party group is organizing busses to DC on Thursday, Nov. 5th. While the details for the busses are still being worked out, we know the cost will be $50 per person round-trip.

Leaving: Thursday morning around 4:00 a.m.

Returning: Thursday night around 11:00 p.m.

Location of departure/return: Coordinators for Portage County Tea Party have several ideas for locations in the Streetsboro and Ravenna areas, but it will take until Monday to get permission to use those staging areas. We will let you know as soon as the Portage Tea Party group has confirmed a location. Currently, there are no buses leaving from the Cleveland or Medina area. If we are able to fill a bus (50 people) from each location,Tom will arrange a bus to leave from the Cleveland and/or Medina area.

Reservations: People can reserve a seat on the bus, starting right now, by calling Tom at 330-474-3878. Please leave your name, telephone number and how many seats you need on the answering machine. When leaving your reservation, make sure to let Tom know you are from the Cleveland or Medina Tea Party Patriots and/or the Cleveland & Medina area.

Someone from the Portage Tea Party group will call you back with details. You can also sign up by sending an e-mail to Info@PortageCountyTEAParty.com.

Payment: Just bring a check to the bus to pay for your seat(s).

Not wanting to go via bus: For those who do not wish to ride one of the busses, we suggest that you carpool. Because the busses are going right to the Capitol building and because parking will be at a premium, we recommend that those carpooling go to Fairfax , Virginia and ride the train into the city.

According to our healthcare expert in DC, the House will most likely vote on the bill this Friday (Nov. 6th). We must act NOW. We will never have a better chance to stand up and defeat this bill. Join us in DC, and let’s show Congress that We the People are here to take our country back.

Thank you,

A Review of Taxes in the House Democrat Health Care Bill

From Americans for Tax Reform --

H.R. 3962, the "Affordable Health Care for America Act" has been introduced--all 1990 pages of it. This gargantuan beast contains thirteen new tax hikes. Here they all are, with description and page number (PDF version).

Employer Mandate Excise Tax (Page 275): If an employer does not pay 72.5 percent of a single employee’s health premium (65 percent of a family employee), the employer must pay an excise tax equal to 8 percent of average wages. Small employers (measured by payroll size) have smaller payroll tax rates of 0 percent (<$500,000), 2 percent ($500,000-$585,000), 4 percent ($585,000-$670,000), and 6 percent ($670,000-$750,000). Individual Mandate Surtax (Page 296): If an individual fails to obtain qualifying coverage, he must pay an income surtax equal to the lesser of 2.5 percent of modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) or the average premium. MAGI adds back in the foreign earned income exclusion and municipal bond interest.

Medicine Cabinet Tax (Page 324): Non-prescription medications would no longer be able to be purchased from health savings accounts (HSAs), flexible spending accounts (FSAs), or health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs). Insulin excepted.

Cap on FSAs (Page 325): FSAs would face an annual cap of $2500 (currently uncapped).

Increased Additional Tax on Non-Qualified HSA Distributions (Page 326): Non-qualified distributions from HSAs would face an additional tax of 20 percent (current law is 10 percent). This disadvantages HSAs relative to other tax-free accounts (e.g. IRAs, 401(k)s, 529 plans, etc.)

Denial of Tax Deduction for Employer Health Plans Coordinating with Medicare Part D (Page 327): This would further erode private sector participation in delivery of Medicare services.

Surtax on Individuals and Small Businesses (Page 336): Imposes an income surtax of 5.4 percent on MAGI over $500,000 ($1 million married filing jointly). MAGI adds back in the itemized deduction for margin loan interest. This would raise the top marginal tax rate in 2011 from 39.6 percent under current law to 45 percent—a new effective top rate.

Excise Tax on Medical Devices (Page 339): Imposes a new excise tax on medical device manufacturers equal to 2.5 percent of the wholesale price. It excludes retail sales and unspecified medical devices sold to the general public.

Corporate 1099-MISC Information Reporting (Page 344): Requires that 1099-MISC forms be issued to corporations as well as persons for trade or business payments. Current law limits to just persons for small business compliance complexity reasons. Also expands reporting to exchanges of property.

Delay in Worldwide Allocation of Interest (Page 345): Delays for nine years the worldwide allocation of interest, a corporate tax relief provision from the American Jobs Creation Act.

Limitation on Tax Treaty Benefits for Certain Payments (Page 346): Increases taxes on U.S. employers with overseas operations looking to avoid double taxation of earnings.

Codification of the “Economic Substance Doctrine” (Page 349): Empowers the IRS to disallow a perfectly legal tax deduction or other tax relief merely because the IRS deems that the motive of the taxpayer was not primarily business-related.

Application of “More Likely Than Not” Rule (Page 357): Publicly-traded partnerships and corporations with annual gross receipts in excess of $100 million have raised standards on penalties. If there is a tax underpayment by these taxpayers, they must be able to prove that the estimated tax paid would have more likely than not been sufficient to cover final tax liability.

Tea Party Patriot Weekly Action Alert; House plans to unveil the House Health Care Legislation Today

Patriots,

We see the dismay our efforts are causing Senator Reid & Speaker Pelosi -- let's keep up the good work.

The following is from our national coordinators...

According to Politico, today, Thursday, October 29 at 10:00 am, the Democrats in the House plan to unveil the House Health Care Legislation. If you are within driving distance of DC and are able to attend with signs in opposition to government takeover of health care, we encourage you to do so.

The phone calls, emails, faxes, and protests have been working. While it is hard work, please keep up the effort. It appears that our efforts are working and right now the Senate does not have the 60 votes necessary to end a filibuster but we want to keep the pressure on so that this holds true.

Thursday:

Call the 25 of Blue Dog Democrats in the House plus your own Congressman and tell them why you do not want the government takeover of health care and a public option.

If you have extra time and unlimited long distance, consider calling not just the DC offices but also the local district offices.

Friday:

Call the remaining Blue Dog Democrats in the House plus your own Congressman and tell them why you do not want the government takeover of health care and a public option.

If you have extra time and unlimited long distance, consider calling not just the DC offices but also the local district offices.

Saturday:

Read the Tea Party Patriots Blog at New Patriot Journal.

Catching President Obama in a lie 40 Likeminded Democrats’ Will Vote to Kill Health Bill if it Doesn’t Get Floor Vote on Pro-Life Amendment

Again showing they will do and say anything to pass a version of socialized health care, we have the so-called bastion of integrity, President Obama, now caught in a hair splitting lie...
Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com that President Barack Obama told him in a telephone conversation that when he said in his Sept. 9 speech to a joint session of Congress that “under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions” he was not talking about the actual bill drafted in the House but about the president’s own health care plan—which has never been written.

Can somebody call Rep. Charlie Wilson -- he may have a couple words about this!

Seeing that he has been lied to, Rep. Stupak is throwing in a well needed monkey wrench of the plans for ramming any version of the Health Care bill through the House....

Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com yesterday that he has organized a group of “about 40 likeminded Democrats” who will vote to kill the health-care bill if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) does not allow a floor vote on his amendment to prohibit federal funds from going to insurance plans that cover abortion.

Under Stupak’s plan, the approximately 40 Democrats in his camp would join with all House Republicans in voting to defeat the special House “rule” that would set the terms for debating and amending the health-care bill on the House floor when it is brought up for a final vote. If a majority of the House does not first vote to approve this rule, the health-care bill itself cannot be brought to the floor. (Click here for video).

If this is pulled off and these Democrats are joined by all the House Republicans they will have the 218 votes needed to kill the bill in the House.

We work on getting the names of the 40 House members so calls of support can be made to their offices. But this shows that everyday we keep these bills from moving closer to PBO's desk, more and more people are coming out against the way these bills are being cobbled together with half truths and lies.

Pelosi now playing word games on "Public Option"

The wicked progressive witch of the west, Speaker Ninny Pelosi, is out trying to fool the public over the "public option" being pushed in the House & Senate versions of the proposed health care bills.

True to progressive form, and much like this past presidential election, the left is not above spinning the truth in their push for government run health care....

A government-sponsored "public option" for health care lives, though it may be more attractive to skeptics if it goes by a different moniker, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday.

In an appearance at a Florida senior center, the Democratic leader referred to the so-called public option as "the consumer option." Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., appeared by Pelosi's side and used the term "competitive option."

"You'll hear everyone say, 'There's got to be a better name for this,'" Pelosi said. "When people think of the public option, public is being misrepresented, that this is being paid for with their public dollars." (Breitbart)

Huh... unless they plan on buying more green ink from Office Max for printing more money -- I wonder exactly what dollars will be used to pay for this public option? Obama Money? Monopoly money?

No matter where the dollars come from, no matter what they call the dollars -- one way or the other it will be coming out of our pockets. But while there plans for government run health care are slowly falling apart -- they will say or do anything for passing their socialized health care proposals.

All of our calls, faxes, letters, rallies have slowed the passing of these bills -- they are on the ropes and we must push even harder now if we want to stop this. We can do it! Their scrambling is proof we have them on the ropes! It is only with more calls, more letter, more faxes & more rallies that we can do this.

Remember, every day we keep any version of the government run health care bill one step farther away from the insidious inking it will get if it reaches President Obama's desk -- we are winning daily victories.

Patriot Alert: Left is Pushing House Members for Public Option

Patriots,

We all know NOW is crunch time if we are going to stop a government take over of our health care system. Proving the administration is worried, we see them attacking anyone, from the insurance companies and the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, that is not supportive of their now estimated at $1 Trillion effort of further destroying our economy with government run health care.

I do not know how much more clear this could be... if we do not make little sacrifices and attend the rallies hosted by Tea Party Patriot groups, if we do not make the calls and send the letters to the 13 Senators and ask to vote for No Cloture (click here), if we do not pressure the Blue Dogs in the House (click here), if we do not continue this fight with every once of energy we have -- you can be sure -- the government will take over our health care system much like they did many of the banks and auto industry.

We want to thank fellow Tea Party Patriot and 9.12 member Paula for sending us this link from a Daily KOS blogger about a post on Open Left urging progressives to contact targeted House members.

From Open Left --

I am receiving new information tonight that the House DOES NOT have 218 "solid' yes votes for health care reform with a Medicare +5% public option. Representative John Larson's claim earlier today that the House had the votes appear to have included at least 12, and as many as 15, Representatives who are "lean yes" votes.

Further, I am told that if the leadership does not confirm 218 "solid" yes votes by the end of the 9:30 a.m. Democratic caucus meeting tomorrow morning, they will probably include the negotiated rate public option in the bill that is sent to the floor, not the Medicare +5% public option. At the very latest, we have until 2 p.m. to get the votes.

Notice the House members from OH leaning yes and one undecided! We must melt their fax machines and shut down their phone systems with calls!

If we are going to win, and I believe we can, we must stop 'talking' about our Founding Fathers and start making the sacrifices they made on our behalf! The future of our country and our children are depending on us.

Hope to see you this Monday 10/26/09 from 3pm - 5:30pm at the Health Care Rally at the Cleveland Clinic II. Click here for more details.
